He has a two story house

He has two cats I would need to keep an eye on

I've never lived truly alone before. I've always either had roommates or family.

It's way more space than I have rn but it's almost too much space yknow

Like some rooms would be totally empty.

I'm kind of afraid of the isolation if that makes sense. Just not being around people. I'm curious as to what that would be like for my mental health.

And also of taking care of the cats. I've never been a cat guy lol.

On the other hand he would only charge me $600 a month w utilities included in that. And he has a fiber internet connection.

He also said I could redecorate however I like and make whatever changes I want and he would either split the cost with me or buy me out when I move out.

I dunno it's a great opportunity I'm just nervous lol

Id recommend taking the deal. Money-wise it sounds pretty nice, but more importantly, its an opportunity for you to learn how to live on your own and be content with being by yourself.

Remember that you should still have access to your friends and family when you feel you need some socialization time but it is important for you to be able to be happy when youre alone too. Give it a try!

this is good advice, just remember you're not stuck in the place if you don't want to be there.

I'm assuming you'll take care of it properly anyway, I suggest taking pictures to cover your ass in case anything strange happens.

How much rent do you pay as it is?
Is the new place convenient for work/education/whatever?
What about costs for the Cats? Do they even actually like (tolerate) you?

Living by yourself isn't so bad, but isn't for everyone. Could always just invite people over if you do find yourself lonely I guess?

Id be anxious about the cats (because Im just not someone who likes taking care of animals, even though I do love cats) but you could use this as a great opportunity to learn how to be by yourself. Too much space? Better than not enough.

Ive been living on my own since 2018 and its been glorious. There hasnt been one single day where I was like gee, I really wish there was someone else here lol

It's closer to my job, the college I go to, and my gym.

Plus several good friends are also in the neighborhoods nearby.

One is very affectionate and the other is incredibly skittish but not like aggressive or mean just shy.

Most folks I know already have their living situation worked out atm.

And I wouldn't want to live with a rando.

As long as I like. He expects his contract to last anywhere from 9 months to 3 years. If I needed to leave before he's back I would just let him know and he'd get someone else to drop in.

Likewise if I want to keep living there after he's back we would then share the house and my rent would drop accordingly.

He doesn't rent, he owns the house outright.

Now I'm kinda going back on it mentally

Like it's a great opportunity

But now I'm worried of burning myself out

Like I'll be moving in less than two weeks. I would have to go through the effort of moving, then fixing up parts of the place, and getting acclimated to taking care of two cats all while working part time and starting my next semester of school all at the same time.

So as I think ahead to it I'm just getting a lil freaked out that it's going to be too much for my mental health.

Plus it's like a whole thing of

If I'm happy with my current living arrangement

Which I am

Should I put myself through this whole process?

Like I have less room at my current place, but I'm paying a great price, the house is new and clean, and I'm living with two close friends

So my brain is being like "do you really need to leave this rn tho?"

Yeah but he's also taking care of his pets and moving out whenever the guy comes back.

The only other option the owner has is to get rid of his cats, take them with him somehow or pay someone to take care of them. They can't exactly rent it out as an Airbnb and say "must feed cats".

Sounds like TCs friend found a perfect way to get his cats taken care of and also have his mortgage paid for him while he is staying out of town. Not saying it is a bad deal for TC necessarily but I'd say he has room to negotiate considering the owner pretty much has no other choice unless he has other friends dying to rent out his place and feed his cats.

How long is this agreement btw? Is it in writing anywhere?

Yeah I'm apparently the second choice. He asked two other friends of ours beforehand but both of them are buying their own place in the next few months and they were like "Well have you asked Doom_Art?"

yemmy posted...

TBD

He mentioned I could come in and leave whenever I like. If I wanted to stay after he comes back I could just room with him and my rent would drop accordingly.

Though the guy is a bit of a slob so I don't know. I could see myself hating his guts if we lived together for an extended period.

Ehhh I think I'm going back on it.

Like it's a great deal and I want to help out but I'm going to be starting my new semester next week, starting my work placement (potentially out of town apparently) in the summer, and I have my current job in between it all.

Plus I have a social life I try to maintain.

Adding taking care of a house and cats to this feels overwhelming.

I don't know
