I was only two when the eighties ended, but I miss the practical effects they used in movies.

I don't want Blockbuster back in this timeline, but I want the timeline where it never went out of business. I want to see if getting to try games through rentals could have stopped video games from going to shit as brutally as they did.

I always wanted a water bed. I know they're more trouble than they're worth, but I just think they're neat.

Video rental stores were still popular well into the late 90s. Crazy how youd have to put down your phone number on the waiting list lol. Or check behind other titles to see if someone was hiding a tape.

definitely video rental stores.

when I was in college (in the mid 00s), I would take the bus home on Fridays, and I'd just go to the clearance section for movies and games, and buy a bunch that were on sale.

I watched so many different kinds of movies that way, and looking through the selections was a good way to spend an hour or two.

I appreciate streaming, but the loss of video stores is something that still left a mark on me.

Shoe stores that would measure your feet

But shoe stores still do this, and have been doing this my whole life. And I wasn't even alive in the 80s

I browse DVDs at the library every week. Reminds me of video rental stores but I don't have to pay.

Rental stores were awesome. Especially when they had decent selections and often at least one or two huge movie nerd employees that could recommend stuff you hadn't heard of before.

video rentals were more of a 90s thing. they were more niche in the 80s where it wasn't yet commonplace to have a VHS machine.

also is "After school special" weed or cartoons? if weed, plz ban TC mods. you did worse to me for less, you jabroni bums!

As someone (male) who was from the ages of 5 - 15 years old by the time the 1980's ended there is a lot I miss from the 1980's:

Recording tapes onto VHS (something we were all doing until the 2000's). No one in my family ever had that utter crap Betamax.

Video rental stores. The first tape we ever rented was Supergirl.

Shoulder pads and it wasn't just on jackets. I remember one time my mum was wear undergarments, blouse and jacket with shoulder pads (around 3 layers) and I couldn't press hard enough to touch her shoulder.

I wish I could have experienced the classic early 80s arcades .I was a baby and toddler then and by the time I could enjoy arcades and games, the magic was over. I see old videos from like 1980 and 1981 and 1982 of arcades and it looks so cool

I was born in 1981

Oh please do not remind me of 1980's arcades as I miss them deeply.

The days when you could walk in with 1 of 10p coins (In Britain it was 10p a shot) and spend ages in there I would give anything to go back to.

Anyone got a TARDIS or a DeLorean so I can go back to the 1980's!

It was probably around 1993 or so, but my local farmers market of all places had an indoor retro arcade, original cabinets at first cost, you could have hours of fun for 2 bucks. Had old posters and neon lights and everything, the guy just loved what he did, I doubt he brought in much money at all. He was there playing every time I went.
