What? Like, really, what? That's it? I waited half an hour in line for that? Pretty nasty imo. The fries were cold and inedible. I got a dbl dbl animal style and it was pretty nasty. Bland, salty, I don't know what I was expecting. People raved over it and I thought it was gunna be great.

I thought the same at a first time visit to one some years ago.

lol Yeah, that's most people's reaction to having In and Out for the first time. It's not going to blow you away, but it's fresh and not bad for the price.

Lol this was literally me the first time I tried it.

The hype is related to how its a California and West coast exclusive, and touted by hipsters. It can't compare to the likes of 5 guys and burgers and fries.

I don't know why everyone gets animal style, it's not nearly as good as just the normal double double with (non-grilled) onions.

Next time, ask for a double triple bossy deluxe, on a raft, four by four, animal style, extra shingles with a shimmy and a squeeze, light axle grease. Make it cry, burn it and let it swim.

I only like their cheeseburgers but im basing this on my middleschool memories when I lived in oceanside California.

When I ate in n out over in Nevada a few years ago I thought the animal style thing I ordered was pretty bland.Maybe I should have stuck with the cheeseburgers

yeah i got mine with a shimmy and a squeeze 4x4 animal style on a raft, and they burnt it and let it swim

Its on a Burger King or McDonalds level rather than the 'premium' fast food places like Five Guys or Smashburger (Colorado not sure what the equivalent is in other states).

If people are going out to get In N Out for lunch I'll throw some money in to get in on that but I feel I feel Californians have put it on a pedestal because it was a Californian thing. I'd pick Burger King over it for the non burger specials they always have on offer (they get a bit creative).

How much you care about this depends heavily based on your income and how many people you have to feed. For me and many much or most of the cost of hitting either Five Guys or In N Out is the time it takes for me to actually go there and get it. In N Out is One * in terms of price and Five Guys is * and 1/2. Either way it its cheap and no tip is expected if you are doing a pickup order.

I went there this year for the first time and thought the same thing. Burger sucked, fries sucked ass. Considerably worse than Five Guys, let alone Wendy's.

it's marginally better in california but at the end of the day it's the most mediocre fast food i've ever had aside from short stop

burgerville on the other hand is an amazing west coast burger chain

Never eaten there. Only been to California once in my life. But seen many conversations about in n out. Just going off that, I've decided that native Californians think its the most amazing thing ever. People from out of state, try it and think "......I dont get it "

I live in California and never ated there. I don't really hear about it either. I know it exists but I don't know anyone who goes there regularly.

While I didn't hate it, I went for the first time earlier this year and thought it was the most average fast food burger I've ever had.

I even went back and got the burger and fries both animal style to see if it would change my mind, nope. And as someone who likes to try all the new and weird stuff at fast food places, I hated how small the menu was. Boring is the best way I could describe in and out.

Five Guys is closer to a 4 star in price. You can even get a sit down restaurant burger for cheaper at some places.

The fries were vastly superior in the 90s-early 2000s. Now it's only worth it if you order them well done. Well done animal style is my go to if I ever go.

Some of us that live in the state don't get it either.

It's fast food. I've never been blown away by fast food

I tried it 3 times across 2 trips to LA just to see what the hubbub was about and it wasn't bad it was just average

I still think Whataburger was much better but I only tried that once

I hav Fuddruckers near me. Also a Five Guys but, 5 guys was almost $20 (dont quote me I dont remember) and wasn't fast food.
