Which one do you think is better? I think I might get around playing both, but wondering if anyone has an opinion on them.

9 is probably the best FF

8 has its moments, and Triple Triad is the best in-game card game, but its also clunky as hell and plot-wise is a mess.

9 is a fantastic love-letter to the series and is a damn lot of fun all around.

Go with 9.

8 first. Might be hard going from 9 to 8.

Most people prefer 9 to 8. I honestly really enjoyed 8 and dont think its near as bad as people let it on to be but 9 is still better by a decent bit IMO.

Haha, that's an interesting take on it. I think I'll go with 9 though.

I love both, but 8 is a thorn filled rose and might not be for everyone. 9 is easily the most straight forward answer.

9 is definitely a contender for best FF.

Final Fantasy is my favorite game series of all time, and FF8 is my least favorite by a fair margin. It starts out good, but falls off a cliff around the end of disc 1.

FF9 is in my top tier for the series. It isnt a perfect game, but it is far better than FF8, IMO.

I'd recommend 8. I thought it was possibly the best FF game

9, however, is a masterpiece

If you're playing 9 on PC, you should get that mod that ups the battle speed. It's actually hilarious how even 1.25x speed feels slow.

Final Fantasy 8 if you want a more futuristic setting, Final Fantasy 9 if you want a more medieval setting. Both fantastic games Id recommend both.

People sleep hard on FF8. But they probably didnt even finish the first disc. It has its issues but its not as bad as people make it out to be.

I still can't bring myself to try FF8 even once and I've beaten every classic FF a few times. 9 being my fav.

the real issues come up AFTER the first disc

I beat 8 twice when I was younger, got Eden, tonberry king and Odin (along with all the other missable ones). I finished the UFO side quest and all that. It was a great game and I loved Lagunas tie end and ending.

but its also the only FF remaster I didnt play when they all came out. I went through 4-7 and 9 a few times recently but 8 is a damn chore to get through.

it does still have one of the greatest openings (and weirdest endings) of all time though.

Calling FF9 overrated is silly.

The best video game ever made cant be overrated unless more people than exists think of it as such.

something getting called overrated is generally a pretty good indicator of the thing in question being quality, because while a random person not liking something is pretty much meaningless information, they are at least telling you that the vast majority of people disagree with them and believe its good

FF8 had so much potential, the amount it falls apart 3/4 through is heartbreaking

Nah, I explained how its impossible for the game to be overrated.

I personally like FF8 more of the two, but both are very good games.

FF8 has flashes of greatness sprinkled throughout, but the finished product is just an incoherent mess of conflicting design and random plot twists that go nowhere.

If you intend to play both, start with 8, as 9 will be a strict upgrade in every conceivable category. But if you have to pick just one, go with 9.

9 is good.

Should be an easy choice.

9 is the greatest game of all time so theres that.

FF8 has at least a top 3 OST in the series, outright the best minigame, and the best limit break style outside of being broken.

But yeah most people prefer 9.
