I tried to see the good in everyone

I got bullied a lot yeah. I also did have a friend group that wasn't the typical nerd group.

School was weird for me man

I lived in a smaller town (graduating class of about 200 people). I feel like even the jocks or preppy kids were rarely mean. 90% of us had known eachother since early grade school so it was pretty common for different cliques to intermingle. Plenty of cheerleaders were also in band or drama, football players also joined in with the nerds for halo lan partys etc.

Not to me. Or I just didn't perceive it that way. My philosophy was always that if someone wants to get under my skin, they're really gonna have to leave no room for any other interpretation. Cause otherwise, why even waste my mental energy on it? Anything lesser just goes away if you don't acknowledge it. You gotta earn my attention if you really want a reaction. No one ever did.

I also went to smaller schools and my extended family was known for jumping people over petty shit.

No, people were nice. They probably would have been mean if I went elsewhere.

There's always mean people in high schools, from students to even some of the staff. Unfortunately, that's reality.

They weren't mean to me because I didn't stand out as a target. I was lucky enough to get the 411 from older graduates who warned me to:

• find a niche group to hang with, defense in numbers, harder targets, less hassle
• keep my head down and avoid the spotlight, attention (bad or good) is worthless in public schools, what you do after HS graduation is key
• not rely on the system to back me up, the system prioritizes quotas and jobs over student welfare (ie: "Zero Tolerance")
• not let what happens in high school define my future, keep down and 99.9% of other students will forget you existed
• let go of high school once it's done, you get your entire adult life to define yourself for real with better privileges.

Final two years went so much smoother after I understood what that advice meant.

Well you can do stuff in HS that will help you after graduating

Like playing sports could get you a scholarship
Good grades can get you into a good college
And of course you can make friends who have the same hobbies as you so you can work on something together. Like a band and maybe you could make it big after graduating

But if you just mean general popularity then yeah that's probably mostly worthless

No one was actively mean but felt like I didn't really exist at times. Spent a lot of time reading in classrooms on breaks.

I was the mean. Bullied a teacher into submission once. Bullied the cops. Bullied the bullies and shoved my fingers in their nostrils.

I wouldn't have come to CE if people were kind.

Some people tried to harass me a few times. Nobody ever hit me. By highschool I had learned not to care, and I just ignored those people

Senior year I became pretty vocal about things people did that I didn't like
