I bought the Pixel 7 pro in mid October from Target and started using in first week of November. I bought it when the $200 gift card preorder bonus was still available.

Right now retailers have all the different skus at $150 (pro) and $100 (regular) off at least.

My impressions are that it's a great phone overall. It's a big upgrade from my 2xl that I had for 5 years. I haven't taken too many photos, but the quality is a huge jump. I do love the OLED screen, 6.7 inch size, and that 12 GB RAM (pretty snappy). 5x optical zoom lens is nice. What disappointing though, is the battery life. It's up a little over 8hrs screentime per day apparently. Hell I actually even have it on battery saver (something I did with my Pixel 2xL) I'm big on battery life and the 7 Series has less than Samsung (10 hrs) and Apple (+12). Enough that it made me turn off the 120 Hz and reduced my +QHD to1080p and have me on battery saver mode. Also important to note that the Pixel phones are expected to only have 3 years worth of OS and security updates vs Samsung's 4 and Apple's +5-6 years. Though with Pixel, it's the first android phone to get OS updates, and it's a pretty clean experience.

I also regret not getting a 256 GB space for storage. I think my 2xl 128 GB storage was at 60%, while it's 40% on my Pixel 7 pro, and that's mostly from apps. I will have to delete a lot.

So in the end... While I do think my purchase was worth it (with the $200GB gift card from Target) I might have been okay with the Pixel 7. It's like if the battery is mediocre vs the competition why bother with the quad HD and 120hz screen, which are supposed to be some advantages over the regular model? I'm guessing battery life on it is similar, if not slightly better as well. I give my experience an 8 to 8.5/10.

Tl;Dr

Smooth Android experience with no bloatware. I got the Pixel 7 Pro, and while I do think it was worth it at preorder deals with the $200 gift card back from Target.. I might have been okay with the regular Pixel 7 model, because in the end, while the battery is slightly bigger, I don't even use the +QHD and 120 Hz screen, cause they are battery hogs and the battery life is mediocre when compared to the competition, though 8 hrs should be enough for the day for most people.

I'm essentially paying for the extra 3rd back camera with 50 MP and 5x optical zoom, +4GB extra RAM, bigger screen (6.2 vs 6.7"). Those I do think it's worth the $200 price difference I essentially got during the preorder bonus, though it's hard for me to say if it is worth it over Pixel 7 with the current $150 and $100 deals for all Skus going on now, when they are normally $600 and $900 for the 128 GB model.. and now $500 and $750 atm (whiten Pixel 7 on Amazon is actually $486). Unless you really use the camera.

Apparently it's 5 years I'd security updates and 3 years of platform updates.

Google killing off Daydream for basically no reason killed my love for the brand. OG Pixel still the best Pixel.

I never used it on my 2xl, but the VR experience demo at Verizon was great.

I don't think it's peak?. Newer models have been better. It was good for it's time though. They supported free original quality camera photos to the Google photos cloud for a number of years. They stopped doing that shortly after and you have to pay a yearly subscription. I think they give the 15GB for free.

Forgot to mention the face id and finger print scan.

I missed the Pixel 2xl back scan, but the screen scan isn't too shabby. It's pretty fast. The face ID thing is alright. I think you have to pretty much use your finger print in conjunction anyway to unlock the phone.

Pixel phones are amazing but I really dislike how Google is insistent on not supporting them for more than a few years.

6a is currently on sale for like 300 and it's a better value proposition at this point.

I changed to a Pixel 7 Pro from a Huawei Mate SE. I never really was a hardcore phone user, but the experience is smooth so far and I'm using it a lot more (other than trying to restart the phone with one hand).

Even so, the price point is still pretty high. If your phone is still relatively new by a few years, I don't see how it's worth upgrading, unless a really good deal pops up.

My standpoint is when it comes to Android it's either a Galaxy flagship or forget it. Samsung is the Android benchmark.

I'm still on my Note20 Ultra from 2020 (now on One UI 5/Android 13) and have yet to see anything on the market that surpasses it.

I had a OnePlus 7 pro I really enjoyed for 3 years and was planning on using another year easily. But I dropped the phone a couple weeks ago and it started forming large cracks. Still usable but it seemed like one more drop would end it, so ended up finding a new pixel 7 for $430.

After using the OnePlus 7 pro for 3 years, which has a pop up front camera, so it has a full screen with no notch or punch hole, seeing the pixels punch hole is still jarring at times.

Performance wise, I don't really notice a difference. Most phones are fast enough for our basic needs these days.

Camera is much better though.

Plenty better exists if only on the basis of the current Qualcomm SOCs are way better than the 865+ having significantly better efficiency and so battery life is definitely better

Still a great phone tho that I loved for the two years I had it

For the day to days, these processors don't really matter for 99% of average use cases. The newer flagship processors are better than the 865+ in the same way that a car going 0-60 in 2.9 seconds is faster than one that does it in 3 seconds flat.

No, went with a 6a. Will probably hop on the 7a if the rumors are true and it comes with 90hz screen and wireless charging.
