A total of 21 individuals 18 students and three teachers were injured, though most were minor. Three teachers and three students sustained bites, scratches and other injuries that required medical attention. They were transported by ambulance to local hospitals. Heather Harman-Michael, director of communications and public relations, said not all of the injuries were caused by the dogs. Many of the students were injured in the melee that followed. Students suffered cuts, scrapes, bruises and sprains while running from the dogs and rushing to the safety of the school building. First-responders and school nurses provided medical attention on scene. Harman-Michael said the dogs, which lived at a house in the neighborhood of the school, were pitbull mixes. They were confiscated by animal control officers Tuesday evening and have been euthanized. The dogs ran onto school property during the afternoon recess at the intermediate school, which serves students in grades 5 and 6. The first calls for help came in shortly after 1 p.m. Asked if the school playground is fenced, Harman-Michael said it is not. The district said school employees, school police officers, emergency first-responders, and Greene County Animal Control responded to the scene. "We had district administration and we had nurses and counselors from other buildings come to Intermediate South to be of assistance," Harman-Michael said. The animal control officers responded "within 10 minutes" and were able to locate the dogs and their owner, who voluntarily surrendered them. Harman-Michael said it was a chaotic scene and in addition to the 21 individuals who were suffered the range of different injuries, other students were on the playground and watched the incident unfold. "They were all out to recess when the dogs came on campus, or onto the playground area," she said. "There were a lot of students who saw it." The Intermediate South building will have indoor recess on Wednesday, the final day of class before the winter break, and counselors will be available for any student who wants to talk. "We'll have a separate, designated area for counselors so any student who feels like they want to process what they saw or went through, or just want to talk through some of that, can go chat with the counselors," she said. Pugs because they are perpetually suffering with things like bad breathing problems due to how they've been bred, pitbulls due to being overly muscular and having the reluctance to let go while attacking bred into them and how they account for over 68% of attacks despite being 10% of the population, making them far more dangerous overall, and doodles because they suffer from the worst of backyard breeders and thus the creator of doodles regrets it immensely. No dog is bred more irresponsibly than the doodle, and it leads to dogs with poor behavior and health problems that backyard breeders often lie about just to get their teddy bear designer dogs to sell. Spaying and neutering them is the most humane way to stop future suffering.
