Been a long time since I played but IIRC the main villain is basically the spawn of Satan and so is your character.

And his evil plan was that he took 2 major mines out of commision to cause an iron shortage that resulted in economical damage to the nation that allowed him to basically become the fantasy version of a Goldman Sachs CEO by being the only reliable supplier of iron?

And you solved the crisis by killing everyone in both mines, going to his house, killing all his friends and then him?

Not sure If I'm remembering it right but in retrospect it's kind of hilarious and topical for a fantasy game.

Sarevok took part in the Iron Throne's attempted power grab through the iron crisis because he wanted to elevate himself to grand duke of Baldur's Gate and lead the city into a war with Amn (who were the scapegoat for the tainted ore) and supposedly the mass deaths resulting from this war would allow him to become the new Lord of Murder as Bhaal's successor. I'm not sure he actually considered how that last part was supposed to work though.

Step 1: Hurt the Economy
Step 2: Blame Foreigners
Step 3: Everyone Dies
Step 4: ????
Step 5: Profit

Saverok would fit right in with the conservatives

Basically. But more he corrupted the other iron sources so they were useless and made brittle weapons/armour if you want to get petty/specific with the details.

Then you get to recruit him in 2's expansion if you want.

2 is vastly better than 1. The expansion might not live up to the main game, but it is still decent and gives a proper conclusion to the bhaalspawn saga, with lots of juicy evil options.

Lots of fun encounters as well, if you want to challenge yourself without using lots of the several cheese options.
