I've never been so close to quiting on the spot.

Long story short...I know I kick ass...they refuse to show any gratitude for it. I get called out on hear say type shit. And certainly kept out of the in group.

I have another job offer I just don't want to get on that during holiday season.

Working through covid got me no where.

Find a job in a more niche retail location like flowers or whatever you're interested in

Even though it's still a job, they treat you a little better since it's more focused

Funny enough, part of where the place is, used to be a flower shop.
Also, my first 'job' as a kind was at my Grandmothers greenhouse. I do love Gardening.

I was accused of giving someone some sass as she told me what to do...which is what I always do anyway just as I am dropping off my stuff basically as I was walking in the door. The devolved into what a POS I was the day before...even though I kicked as on that....with three call outs. So I was doing the work of at least three people. Mind you, I also got that place through Covid and every other level of nonsense.

Also, the owners and management are almost never sober.
The owner married into it recently and is an Olympic hothead.
There is a lot of nepotism going on as well.
The place sells alcohol so it deals with addicts...so, even if we do a good job it doesn't matter...addicts will always come.

Associate...so basic as fuck. They dropped me to that about this time last year....as other people were bumped up to specialists or shift supervisors. Specialists can often spend three-plus hours drinking wine....three of them at a time.

I should also say, that the owner a few weeks ago asked my if I wanted to sell my house to him...which is totally fucked by any standards.

Free wine and wings is helping a bit.
I actually think my coworkers are on my side.

I just want to get through the holiday season.
I mean technically I get a holiday bonus that really won't amount to shit. But why leave it on the table

The holiday season is just not a good time to jump ship..

But no, they are not particularly loyal me and that is something to consider.

The last company I worked for, I was out for 6 weeks due to an injury, because they kept making me work even when I told them I was over extended. Then when I got back, the guy who started a week after me had already quit...

Then I found out they were stealing money from me in the name of benefit premiums I was specifically told I did not have (they were back charging me for a time I did not have them, was told I wouldn't have them, then said I did have them and they didn't charge me for...)

I found out shortly there after that the guy who quit it was for the exact same reason.

I then "quit" because I told HR that I wanted my money back, and they started a circular argument: "What do you want?" "My money back" "That won't happen, what do you want?" And after like 10 times, I got up, and they said "IF you walk out that door you quit" and so I apparently quit.

Yeah, I wasn't going to let them continue to steal from me. I was going to go back to work, but HR chased me down and demanded I give back my access badge. Then claimed I said I had quit like 20 minutes prior but continued the conversation.

There were a fuckton of red flags from that company after I started. I in no way regret leaving.

Are you in the US? Even associate or cashier jobs can be tolerable with the right company, I've heard many times Buckees and QT are great to work for. I was a Kroger manager for years, but even part time employees get benefits and paid vacation time and wasn't bad overall. These places pay fairly well in comparison as well.

It kinda is like that.
I can go to the office for a normal question and see like five coworkers including owners and management just hanging around drinking. ((They just call it a tasting))

So, this... The Circular argument.
I wasn't looking for an argument.
I never leave the house looking for an argument.
It was handed to me.. But ya, when I feel backed into a corner I don't feel well.

Ya, I know you can relate..
It's similar to what you used to do.
I can handle the core of the job....but not getting beat up on the side.

I do have something else lined up. I just don't want to feel the way I am feeling.

I am.
And I am actually good at what I do.
It just happens to be a locally owned spot...but the new owner married into it.

I just would like a break from time to time with dealing with the public on such and upfront scale.
I can do it, and should be acknowledged as such, not beaten down for stepping away a few moments...which everyone does.

When I say working with the public, I mean the most homeless person in the city, to the former Mayor and Chief of Police, and everything in between. I might be the only person who works there that even knows who I am talking to. I'm very local.

I can deal with it all, but it is a lot for basic money.

FR though, go into a factory job. Make sure they have a union if possible.

Extra bonus if you are near an automotive manufacturer. UAW benefits are fucking baller. Free health, dental, vision insurance ( i dont pay a dime towards a premium and the insurance is REAL good insurance). Profit sharing. Guaranteed time off. Fringe benefits like discount tickets to sporting events and theme parks. Discounts on phone plans and all kinds of other shit.

The biggest benefit is you dont have to deal with the general public anymore, and as long as you show up and do your job nobody will ever fuck with you.

If you're not happy then leave. If any job is making you overly stressed, you don't feel appreciated, any of that... Go find something else. I had to learn that the hard way. Had a job where I was working six days a week and they literally told me we were moving to seven. I said absolutely not. I managed to keep it at six days a week, but they kept telling me I had to come in earlier and earlier. I informed them I had the schedule I'd been working for years because I had to watch my kids during the day. Newer managers just didn't give a crap and tried to intimidate me. Lol, they threatened to fire me numerous times. I even told one of them to go for it. He never did.

Eventually I'd had enough and quit a few weeks before Christmas, our busiest time of the year. I had about 60k in the bank and another job lined up that would start in January. That fell through, so I chilled at the house for a few months and did absolutely nothing. Then started doing maintenance at a nursing home. The administration there got stupid, told me I needed to do more (had less than ten weekends off in about ten months) and that I needed to sweat more. We had a COVID outbreak once and I literally worked like 23 days straight. So I knew the guy was full of it. Cleaned out my office, turned in my keys and walked the hell out. Had another job in less than a week. It's the most chill job I've ever had and I love it. Zero stress.

I say all of this to reiterate that if you're not happy it's just not worth staying. You're a human being and deserve to be treated with respect, appreciated for your hard work, and compensated fairly for your time. I don't know your financial situation, but try to always have some fuck you money. Boss getting stupid? Later. It gives you peace of mind and really helps to know you can get by without work for awhile.

Best of luck!

First, thank you.

And yes, I am being made to feel unhappy.
And yes, what is with threating people to be fired regularly?
What is with that...Does someone actually think that working with a gun to your head makes you a better worker?

I hear ya. I'm a good worker too, and my philosophy now is I can go be a great worker somewhere else if the company feels a certain way. I took so much initiative at that job it isn't even funny. We had a deaf employee get promoted to our department, and I spent weeks and months learning ASL to better communicate with him. Not an expert at it by any means, but I can definitely hold a conversation (as long as it's slow, lol). Figured out a way to reduce missing packages that was rather ingenious if I do say so myself. Took less than an hour a day to do, saved time by not processing those packages in another area, and got the customer their product. Me and the engineer calculated the savings and it was like I was working for free with what I implemented. Didn't get a raise or anything for it, not anything. And it was easily scalable company wide. Hell, I could bring someone off the street and teach them how to do it in less than fifteen minutes.

So yeah, whatever job I have I strive to be my best. Rarely late (less than five times in fourteen years and all of those were because of wrecks on the highway), never called out, always helped everyone out. Didn't mean much to the higher ups but my teammates definitely worked harder because of it. Was offered management many times but always declined (I had been there so long my boss only made fifty cents more than me) and the one time I said yes they didn't want to pay what I was asking for so I said no. They came back a few months later and said they could make it happen. Lol, I said you could have made it happen before and I wasn't interested in being played with. Didn't stop them from trying on occasion but I was starting to wise up to everything happening so I stuck to my guns.

Really hope things get better for you. There or somewhere else. I was honestly depressed that I didn't get the job I was supposed to (inspecting welds) as I spent a ton of time studying for it. But it's all worked out and I'm happier than ever. So definitely keep your spirits up.
