I hear that this might test Texas's grid, but I'm not THAT worried. I looked at the weather in my area and compared it to the temperatures in February 2021, and it doesn't look ANYWHERE NEAR as bad. It's supposed to have highs in the high 30s-low 40s for 2 days, get to highs in the high 40s, then go back to highs in the 50s the day after Christmas. Compare that to February 2021, when there were 8 consecutive days of below-freezing highs.

Did you know that Siberia is not that cold? The ice on Siberia melts as opposed to Antarctica and Greenland.

Siberia has the coldest inhabited city in the world. But remember, I think a year or so ago the place was on fire during record high temps.

Come to Scotland where it has been fucking freezing for the last couple of weeks or so. Apart from the Arctic, Antarctic and one place in Russia, Glasgow Scotland has been the coldest place on the planet. We have had daytime temperatures of -4Celcius (24.8Fahrenheit) and lows of -11Celcius (12.2Fahrenheit).

You get used to it.

Up here in AK we got about 2 an a half feet of snow, maybe more over the past few days, and its epected to drop below freezing after a day of freezing rain.

Its about to get pretty bad.

Is that Celcius or Fahrenheit?

It isn't very helpful when you just say -2 as there are two temperature scales in use and everywhere on the planet uses Celcius except for one backwards country in the USA which still uses the long outdated Fahrenheit system.

Damn ,I'm in TX but i.was just checking around other 10 day forecasts. Billings MT is going to have 2 straight days at -5/-20. It will freeze here but nothing like 2021.

my dog's arthritis is made worse by winter and she isn't able to walk outside as much compared to summer.

she was so stiff 3 days ago but i don't think she has given up yet. glucosamine/msm tablets seem to help regain some mobility where she can walk almost normal.

Looking at the forecast in my area, it's not even supposed to snow.

The snow wasn't the problem. The low temperatures caused pipelines to freeze, which drastically lowered the capacity for Texas' grid to supply power to the state. The low temperatures also caused increased demand because people needed to heat their homes, so they had to shut down the grid to avoid a catastrophic failure that would have lasted a month or more.

Gonna be just a few days with a bit of snow in Washington followed by a week of much warmer rain, I will be okay with that

Hopefully that's the case. Texas hasn't done anything to weatherize the power grid, so we're screwed the next time we get temperatures that cold again.

Its been raining here the last week-and-a-half, glad for some long-awaited coolness at last. Fuck this humidity.
