Every time a new game comes out, the veteran FE elitists chime in about how "cringe" it is, and actively berate people who like them. Then they just whine endlessly about how easy they are and complain about casual mode existing. So play on the hardest difficulty, don't use casual mode and shut the fuck up. Or go back and play your precious Thracia 776 or whatever the fuck was out 40 years ago that you gotta be super hardcore to even beat. These days, there's more to games than just gameplay. The old games are still there, it's not like these newer ones existing take anything away from you.

It's happening with Engage too. People are complaining about a mini-game that most likely didn't "take away" from any other features they could've added. It costs nothing by being there, and guess what, you don't have to play it. Novel concept to some.

My issue with Engage is it appears they are leaning very heavily on fanservice but I will play it when it comes out.

I wasn't being completely literal with that. My point is it doesn't logically follow that just because a random mini-game exists, it means it took away from other planned parts of the game.

After the cash cow that was 3 Houses the budget for all these things is effectively unlimited.

Gotta love how they're crapped on for being "dating simulators" over what basically amounts to being a optional 5 minute cutscene in a 70 hour playthrough as well.

It was a much bigger deal in Awakening & Fates which were full on eugenics simulators.

Marrying units is a great mechanic and anyone who bitches about it are LAME. 4 was such an ambitious game

I'll admit that I have a lot of misgivings with Engage thus far, mainly with the art which feels really...I dunno, generic?

But I'm trying to remain optimistic. The gameplay does at least look good thus far.

Most of those "hardcore fans" you're referring to aren't really fans of hardcore content, they're nostalgia fanboys who are simply clinging to their childhood (inb4 Engage is clinging onto nostalgia themselves with the crossover mechanic. There's a difference between referencing and celebrating their previous games and clinging to them as a crutch). There are plenty of indie games that are like what they claim to want but you know the majority of them aren't picking them up. Most of them are also incapable of actually discussing high level gameplay of the games they prop up. It's ironic that claim they want strategy gameplay to take priority over fluff and attractive characters when they're the ones that clearly care more about the fluff and the character's appearances over the gameplay.

Now granted, this game could definitely still become a hot mess in gameplay and story when it comes out but this song and dance has happened for every new FE game including TH which eventually became positively received. Even Conquest is acknowledged for its gameplay despite its story being one of the worst in fiction. IS currently has a track record of at least doing one of the things right.

My only complaint about engage so far is the protagonist looks stupid

What can I say, I'm not a fan of a lot of the designs (or the artstyle in general tbh), and the reliance on using a bunch of old characters takes away from the game's own cast in my opinion. Also, "Emblem, Engage!" did legit make me cringe more than anything this series has ever done before.

That said, the animations look fantastic, easily the best out of any 3D FE and a huge step up from ugly Three Houses, and the gameplay definitely looks interesting, so I'm still excited.

I will admit the art style looks kinda bad and I am very wary of them using so many characters from other FE games. What are they going for here exactly? The concept reeks of laziness and unoriginality.

I've seen almost no footage of the game though so I don't know much. I thought 3H was amazing though.

I'd like to introduce you to the Souls community.

If you so much as think the words "easy mode" within a hundred-yard radius, you'll immediately be steamrolled with a 2000 word essay about artistic integrity, unbalanced classes, and gitting gud. The mere suggestion that an optional, well developed easy mode existing wouldn't hurt their game experience is tantamount to making rude suggestions involving Ceaseless Discharge and their mother.

Yes. It's actually really weird they brought it back. Wasn't exactly a good QOL mechanic. Wonder if they've balanced it differently in this game.

People always whine whenever a new Fire Emblem game is about to get released. I wouldnt worry too much about it. The game looks very fun and thats all that matters.

Supposedly theyre working on a remake of genealogy of the holy war. So that should be cool. I never played it myself so thats exciting. Wish theyd port the GBA games or remake those too.

Anyway Im excited for Engage

I think it's good that casual mode exists, I just think the devs should pretend it doesn't when designing maps. Levels should be exclusively balanced around hardcore mode. Casual should simply be an easier option.

People have complained about simplifying games forever.
People complained about how Oblivion got simplified from Morrowind and then they complained how much simplified Skyrim got, and yet it still sells well enough to justify yet another rererelease 11 years later.
Usenet was filled with Sierra fanboys complaining about how the simplification of the first Monkey Island ruined the whole Point and Click genre.
