i feel like i should like this game a lot more than i do. The story was entertaining for the first hour or two but as it drags on i just dont care. the combat isnt great and the armor/upgrade/skills are both confusing and dont seem to upgrade me a whole lot. not very satisfying game mechanics and so much fucking wandering around.

idk, 2018 was a solid 8/10 for me and i just expected this to be better

they took someone elses franchise and weren't creative with it
the next 4 years of gaming are going to be pretty terrible, most of those rich people are hollow shells
you could tell it wasn't great jus looking at the dialogue, the characters act like 21st century people

I'm really tired of Sony's Third person over the Shoulder Story based games, most of their in house stuff has always been focused on cinematic but not as homogenous as it's been since TLOU, the original God of War games had a fantastic sense of scale and visual direction with solid cutscenes, now it's just endless hallways with dialogue for several minutes at a time, which works well for TLOU but feels out of place and wrong for fucking God of War.

yeah i agree. i fucking LOVE the last of us, part ii is easily my favorite game of all time but these cinematic games suck aside from those because the stories just arent as engaging for me personally.

i dont really understand this take. its most definitely a full blown sequel. but yeah Ive never been huge on god of war.

I think the stakes were higher in this game, but I think the first game took itself more seriously (and for good reason, not much to laugh about tbh). Overall I enjoyed it a lot, and I need more weapons like the spear because holy shit its satisfying.

Your argument is that a sequel, which started development shortly after the game was released, if not a few months before, was supposed to be DLC? I can see episodic content with Vanir gods but asserting that Ragnarok itself was supposed to be DLC is a weird argument.

Where did you read that then? Everything Ive been seeing just says the team considered making DLC, but a sequel was always in the cards.

Edit: Okay I found this one article where the game director mentions having an idea that was too big in scope for DLC and it never came to light. It literally says nothing else to imply the original idea that the sequel was supposed to be dlc.

It is in almost everyway. Improved combat, bigger realms, more boss fights and I enjoy the spear. The only issue I had with it is the pacing and it felt rushed towards the end. All in all though I enjoyed it.

No it was originally going to be a trilogy actually. It's just the devs didn't want to spend over a decade on the Norse mythology so plans were changed.

I felt that way about the first one.

The story is literally a mcguffin quest and everyone in the gaming community is all omg it's so deep. They don't even explain why I should care about taking the dead lady ashes up a mountain. Just wasting the entire game doing it. Oh but now there's a storm or some force field crap. Gotta go back down the mountain and do a fetch quest first. That's quite the riveting plot development.

The rpg elements are poorly implemented, the enemies repetitive, Kratos and the boi are insufferable.... I don't honestly get what it is people find so amazing about the 2018 one

Correct me if I'm wrong here but weren't the first 3 God of War games written by different people or something which is why the story seems kind of disjointed between the games?

It can be argued that the story being consistent wasn't the point of those games, it was the action and spectacle, and I know many people who were fans of the old games dislike the new direction though.

the combat in this game is fantastic, no two ways about it. the upgrades aren't confusing at all, you just didn't spend enough time with it

i feel like i'm wasting words here cause it seems like this topic is just created for people to hate on a good game. i'm not saying it's perfect, i had some issues with the pacing and story myself, but just to go in and hate on a game because you're getting your ass handed to you is always something i find amusing and at the same time is NOT a good critique of the game

the close camera angle complaint is something especially hilarious cause it exposes people with no fucking depth perception or hand eye coordination - a similar argument is people not being able to free run/parkour/do jumping puzzles in first person in games like Dying Light/Titanfall/Destiny 2/Mirror's Edge. because you're not able to play it, or willing to learn the combat/movement system, doesn't mean the game is bad

again, wasting words here, but i'll leave you with this: return to the game when you're feeling less frustrated, relax, and enjoy one of the better games that's been released in the past five years

Except it wasnt, and thinking that DLC that never happened became a fully fledged sequel when one was already planned before the first game was released either means youre fucking with me or you have a profound misunderstanding of how game development works.
