The last time I played WoW was just before they introduced the Pandas. Is it worth going back? And is it still F2P at all?

Up to level 20 or something before.

The worgen starting area was once considered the best starting zone, but they've improved since then.

I believe parts of it are also broken and they've never bothered to fix it.

Mages are basically taxi drivers in WoW

I haven't leveled a mage in so long, but if it's anything like it was back then, they're pretty boring to level. They rely a lot on procs and the like which you don't have when you start out.

Oh Christ

I know buffs are a big part of WoW but I still feel like they could implemented better.

Especially in Raids where everyone has to keep taking 5 to rebuff and prepare for the next boss. It's so flowbreaking.

I haven't played WoW in years but what made me quit was that the end game was so boring because raids were so boring and a big chunk of how boring they are was that it took so long to do anything

Well, I didn't say anything about buffs, but they did improve those by making most of them last an hour and some persist through death.

When I played they lasted 5 minutes

It was brutal

i haven't gotten anywhere near raids yet

Also you buff everyone in the raid with a single cast. That not being the case once upon a time was agony.

Mage is always solid. One of the three specs, at minimum, has been in the top 5 across the entire history of the game at any given time. They're the most consistently good class in the entire game in terms of performance in the charts.

That said, they have a particular play style that might not be everybody's favorite thing. I personally prefer hunter. But Arcane Mage is fun for just pressing two buttons most of the time and doing pretty solid damage.

I cancelled my sub I was leveling alts more than playing dragonflight lol

Whatever you like best. I will say fire has the least survivability while leveling. Frost is easy because of the built in slow effect in its spells, and Arcane tends to just blast things quick if you stay at 4 Arcane charges and drink water in between fights.

Go frost and blizzard kite mobs while the melee marvel at your xp gains. In particular, there's a spot where yiu can gather tons of pirates, but I forget the name, it's a level 50ish zone iirc.

It turned the clock on the game so that it is like it was in 2004 and they've updated it over time (they are up to the third expansion, wrath of the Lich King).

Its a nostalgia trip essentially. I wouldn't recommend it for new players because its missing quality of life boosts that have been introduced over time and has way less content.

i have paid for MoP when it came out and just recently Dragonflight.

so... not actually a whole lot compared to the probable 800-1000 i've spent on FFXIV

The only faction restriction they ever had was paladin for Alliance and shaman for Horde. That went away in Burning Crusade.

actually including sub payments, this is probably closer to 1800

I played Vanilla WoW through the end of vanilla Burning Crusade. Mained an undead mage in the top Horde raiding guild on my server. Saw Kiljaeden about a month before WotlK was released. I realized Blizzard just had me on a never ending hamster wheel. It was a lot of fun, but I decided to quit at the end of burning crusade and never went back lol.

I kind of prefer alts on a singular connected account rather than FFXIV just expecting you to have it all on one character. It kills me that I can't play as all the races in FFXIV without spending a large amount on constantly switching.

With that said I do have alts on FFXIV even though the experience is very far from tailored from it.

Make a paladin next.
But play wrath classic instead :D
