You pretty much only need Goku. Who needs Roshi? Goku would have figured out the Kamehameha all on his own anyways. Krillin is useless since he's not even a good enough rival to challenge Goku anyways. Gohan isn't necessary to the plot of the story since he doesn't even win any fights. Since Gohan is pointless then that means Piccolo is useless too. Why would there need to be a surrogate father figure for a character that shouldn't even exist anyways. While we're at it, who the fuck cares about saiyans at all? All they do is create more problems than they solve. For this series to be successful you pretty much just need Bulma since she's the impetus for the series even happening in the first place. If the series was just Bulma spending her summer break finding the dragon balls and solving problems with practical solutions then it would be a drastic improvement since she's the most useful character to the franchise anyways.

Dragon Ball only happens because Bulma sets out on a journey during her summer break while using her dragon radar to find the dragon balls. Just imagine how much better the story would have been if she actually managed to murder that weird little tailed kid living alone in the woods. None of that pointless filler and padding that occurs immediately after for another 30 years would have even been necessary.

Please explain how the story for "Dragon Fist" would go, bearing in mind that you've established that every plot device or non-combatant character is useless

Remove Bulma from the story and it's just about a baby with a tail getting a concussion and dying alone in the woods, since Grandpa Gohan is useless and wouldn't exist to find him

Yes! And he has a crush on some girl. They all wear typical japanese high school outfits, and goku is bad at math but krillin helps with math. Piccollo is the cool dude who plays basketball and sort of looks down on goku. Also, they all switch genders when they get wet. /s
