Yeah. I think its because their kids have it better than the parents did. Back when i was a little kid, i was a brat. At times back then i wished i had more time with them, was i loved enough, were they making enough money... for me, what could i do to gain praises, what plans for me, why they separate, was it my fault, where will i live, can i survive if i runaway... yeah. There were moments i wanted to be free from my parents as naive as that sounds. So, i told myself that if i ever had kids i would be the best.

I think most if not all bragging parents has that or some form of that buried deep in their subconsciousness. The moment they realize their kids have it better than the parents when they were kids is when they go ,"aha, I knew it! I am doing better than my parents." Like i could see how this may lead to the feeling of unappreciation from family at the efforts it takes to provide a standard of living provided. ngl, maybe the kid compares other families like you did and the cycle of becoming a better parent continues. At the same time realizing, "hey, parents did/doing their best they could." Journey in life is unique and id like to think everybody has set some expectations of some parenting based on the wisdom & experiences theyve done so far in their respective lives. At the end of the day, maybe your parents and new parents just want whats best for their kids and take any Ws they can get regardless of standards their own parents kinda set.

Came in to post something like this. Same reason why parents with an infant child tell you every smile their child gives them is worth everything, because they have to convince themselves that somehow all the sleepless nights and misery of taking care of the child must be worth something.
