I searched around for this and some sources say they merely suspended their morality police. I hope they get rid of them and the dumb laws they enforced.

That's not going to be enough. You can't undo decades of systemic oppression by getting rid of the arm that enforces it, especially when the leaders are the ones in charge of it. The leaders are still there.

I don't think the population will go back to how things were. Hopefully the theocratic regime has their names numbered with the current and coming generations.

This is true. Another issue is that there are hardliners who aren't even part of the government, but are used to getting their way and will enforce their ideology in what they view as vigilante justice.

Yeah, I don't see that happening after over 40 years of this, but the protest will hopefully spark real change, like overthrowing the theocracy...

Do you think Iran could become a more secular country, IF, and that's a big if by the way, the Iranian regime gets overthrown?

Like could the US & its allies do in Iran what they did in Iraq? That is, overthrow the regime and put in a leader who is more aligned with the West?

I know obviously the circumstances of why we went to Iraq and that it's completely different to events in Iran, I mean we invaded Iraq because of the belief that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and could launch them in 45 minutes, once they found no WMD's the plan then was to topple the Hussein regime.

The US & allies succeeded, Uday & Qusay were killed and then Saddam was executed, but with these killings it came at a cost with the rise of Islamic State causing instability in Iraq.

I'm not saying it would happen to Iran, but I think lessons have to be learned when you try to remove problematic rulers, there's always a consequence.

They already did that. That is a big part of what led to the current situation. U.S. needs to stay the fuck out of Iran

So another 20+ years of war over something that doesnt affect us directly. Our economy is a wreck from our last 20+ year war which is still raging on. An entire generation of people was essentially told they would do quadruple the work for half the pay while the cost of living goes up at astronomic rates.

No, I think that any military intervention must come from the UN and the USA needs to not pay a cent towards it and we shouldnt sacrifice any soldiers lives. The UN uses us as their personal attack dog and our citizens cannot survive another economy-crushing war right now.

"Just because the government has decided to dismantle morality police it doesn't mean the protests are ending," one Iranian woman told the BBC World Service's Newshour programme.

"Even the government saying the hijab is a personal choice is not enough. People know Iran has no future with this government in power. We will see more people from different factions of Iranian society, moderate and traditional, coming out in support of women to get more of their rights back."

Another woman said: "We, the protesters, don't care about no hijab no more. We've been going out without it for the past 70 days."

"A revolution is what we have. Hijab was the start of it and we don't want anything, anything less, but death for the dictator and a regime change."

Something this entrenched will not be abolished so easily, which is why I thought to search it up myself to confirm. As nice as it would be, it just doesn't work that way.
