We sit next to each other in class and as a result we are always paired as group members. She's friendly to the point where she does engage and ask me questions about things outside the course material. The only qualm I have is the fact that I'm the only one addressing her by her name (I always thought it was more polite to address someone by their name). I have no intentions to pursue anything more than a surface level friendship, but it bugs me that my expectations on what I consider polite, have been missed. this the norm these days? Perhaps I should start saying "hey bruh what up?" instead of "hey ____ how was your day?"

Understanding the social dynamic of college life is extremely difficult for me. Please help.

i once went half a semester not knowing one of my group members names and so I never addressed said person by name, till someone in our group said it.

Maybe they don't know yours?

She probably wants to ensure that you don't develop any feelings for her. As men tend to misread simple kindness as romantic intent.

You're overthinking it, plenty of people don't address other's by their name every time they interact, it's not really that necessary unless you're calling out to them to get their attention or something - personally, I am a name-caller (no, not in the mean way!) as in I do use people's names when talking to them, but that's just me

Now that I think about it, I don't use people's names or even my own. It just seems kinda weird tbh

If she's like me they've probabaly forgotten it and are either to embarrassed to awkwardly ask, or don't care.

Does she refer to others by their names, or does she not really use anyones names? Pay attention to that.

If it is just you, then she either doesn't know it or has a disliking for your name for reasons unrelated to you.

Some people know someone with your name and has reasons to hate them. While you are a separate person, not everyone thinks logically all the time.

Either way, leave it alone.

Most people don't use the other person's name when interacting one-on-one other than maybe a "Hi, name" when entering the room. I wonder if you are the one being odd.

If someone called me that (or anything ending with '-man') I probably couldn't resist doing a pose while singing the Megaman boss tune.

Yeah I remember being upset I never had a nickname that stuck long. Only two I had where short lived. Logo (cause I never wore a shirt that didn't have something on it) and wakka (cause I wore a bandanna tied like a head band with my hair spiked and i had decent length on it) neither one stuck for more than a few months though
