Most nations within the European Union have the best sick pay benefits in the world. However, Japan, Canada and Australia make provisions for employees to receive 66%, 55%-80%, or 100% of their pay. The United States, by the way, is the only developed country that doesn't offer any guaranteed sick days.

Why pay someone for not working?

Sweden

Sweden companies usually provide sick pay instead of the usual wage for the first two weeks an employee is ill. After two weeks, workers can apply for Frskringskassan's illness benefits. Sweden's employees can receive between 25% and 100% of their salary for a maximum of a year.
Iceland

Icelandic employees can receive a minimum of two days of sick leave for every month they work. They may receive 100% of their salary for time off because of an illness, some of which may come from an employer or the Social Insurance Administration. For this reason, the Compensation Experts ranked this country as the location with the top paid sick leave in the world.

Norway

Norway offers sickness benefits for up to a year. Workers that still cannot work after this time might receive additional assistance. Employers will cover the first 16 days.
The European Commissions Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion determines the amount paid to sick employees based on their salary from the previous three months. They might receive up to 100% of their pay for at least 31 days.

Other countries sound like Paradise.

Americans probably didn't even realize sick days is not a concept for much of the developed world.

You don't get an alottment of days. You take off when you are sick and get paid for weeks if it lasts that long then social program might kick in. etc

You should know that I'm super-Sowell.

Where I work you can get signed off sick for 6 months and still get full pay. People really do take advantage of this. We always have at least 3 people signed off on long term sickness.

Sucks tbh. You could be bleeding from four stumps where your limbs used to be and still ask yourself "hmm should I go to the hospital or nah"

Every country has its issues. The ones that seem perfect are smaller in comparison and good luck moving and finding decent work in them if youre not already born there. America needs to fix its issues, but its still the best country over all for many good reasons.

I see your concern with lack of sick pay, sick leave, and affordable medical care in the US. That is an issue. Everywhere in the world seems to have housing and mental health issues too. None of them are perfect.

Those others that are not perfect with those issues are just having same issues you find in USA but they solved or close to solved other ones whereas USA actively shits on people who even discuss fixing them

it is more patriotic to see fixable issues like this and discuss them, and we know they are fixable when other countries have done it

therefore we must be aware that in comparison USA sucks

real countries have both. theres no reason someone should be punished with having a shorter holiday because they got sick during the year one time. and sick days are paid as well because the worker should be punished because of a health issue

I was raped and beaten with a bat when I was 16 and I'm having major issues with my back now and even with insurance an xray at my hospital is $800. Copay is $45 and another $45 just for the follow up. When I applied for my medical mj card they charged me $300 just for the drug test.

As for the other stuff america sucks and I live here. Walking while black and gay is honestly a bit terrifying. Trump didn't make things any better.

To be fair, a shitload of European social benefits is a result of the USA basically paying for their defense for a few decades, which theyre rapidly realizing might have downsides now that Russias looking a bit more expansionist.
