To be fair, that was really only season 1, before they softened up the character and realized that Roger printed money for the show.

yeah there are definite moment sof misogyny in the writing a lot of the times
but the wife characters tend to be fine
lois and francine get a lot more focus episodes than the daughters do

Francine is off-the-wall amazing though, so it balances out.
Haley oddly has wound up being the closest to normal of the entire cast.

Also Jeff Fischer is played by Jeff Fischer.

no. this takes multiple episodes over multiple seasons to explain everything but here is what happened to jeff

when he discovered roger was an alien stan said to protect the family either jeff or roger would have to die. but roger said that he would leave the planet and then both could live. but when the tractor beam came to pick up roger he threw jeff in instead sending jeff into outer space. jeff eventually escaped and stole an escape pod and tried to make his way back to earth. eventually it seemed like he did but it turned out to be an alien disguised as jeff. the real jeff had been dissected and killed. but they upload his brain into the alien copies body but dont tell him he is now an alien. when jeff and haylee decide they want to have kids roger reveals that jeff has an alien body and so they cant cross breed so it impossible for them to have babies. but roger could eat jeffs brain which would make him man pregnant and then he could give birth to jeff back in a human body. and thats exactly what happened. so jeff knows roger is an alien now

At least Hayley is treated much better then Meg, even if she is the member of the Smith family that has the least to do.

This is what I love about American dad. They didn't need to explain that. They could have pushed the reset button at anytime. That is completely stupid but you have to give them credit for explaining it anyway.

I'll be fair and say that Hayley gets it a lot better than the others, especially in later episodes (though Seth has almost nothing to do with them at this point). As far as I've seen, she still pretty routinely gets episodes and/or at least roles in B stories, and the show treats her with a lot more respect than Meg or the Cleveland Show girl get.

That show seems to love their multi-season in-jokes that eventually resolve. Like the golden poo.
