Mid 1990s to mid 2000s or so. SNES, PS1 and PS2 mostly, I suppose.

It's funny how much steam FF has lost in recent times.

Pfft RPGs are still around.

RTS' are what died. And Command and Conquer 4 killed them.

I dont think theyve become less popular as such. Its more that while gaming has become much more popular, they havent grown in line with it.

Every Wild Arms I've attempted to play bored the shit out of me. I played them late. But I also played shit like the original Grandia super late and I put 80 hours into it. Wild Arms always feels like a mess of a series that makes me go "Why don't I just play something that did everything it's trying to do better?". Grandia 3 is better than Wild Arms 3 :3

They're still popular though. Most of the big single player franchises are rpgs

only reason they lost steam was cause they were the best games out back then. now we got all kindsa shit.

They're still popular. Dungeons and Dragons is still one of the most played games to this day. Even moreso now with Critical Role's streaming.

You're not an RPG fan if you've never played a single game of it. Doesn't matter if you're a WRPG, JRPG KRPG, LGBRPG, XRPG--every system can be traced back to DnD in some way and true RPG connoisseurs will play at least once.

they still sort of are. I mean God of War Ragnarok is basically an action RPG with stats and equipment. Assassins Creed turned into RPGs as well. They just changed form for the most part.
