Up because every [omitted] on CE needs to know we just cracked open life a little more.

Will someone please explain selective pressure to me so that I can accept that it is a thing?

Up to now I thought I could ignore it. I have always thought evolution just happened and then the useful ones were selected.

However this experiment applied a selective pressure and got

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/7/0/AACsDqAAD6_m.jpg

Life is negative entropy and selective pressure moreso?

I get that it's cool, but I don't get how you're getting negative entropy out of it?

Selective pressure is a factor, any factor, that affects how an organism or population survives (and thus how they propagate and evolve). It's the leaves being high on the tree that was pressure on giraffes to select for taller giraffes.

Solitary algae cells can survive slightly better than a "colony", but a colony becomes much more survivable when something shows up that eats the loners.

This helps some. Is it that: The multi-celled would lose if they had to compete with the single-celled for food but the predator?
