Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs has defeated Republican Kari Lake in Arizona's race for governor, NBC News projected Monday.

Hobbs' victory is key for Democrats in a presidential battleground state and a rebuke to a prominent election denier although the closeness of the contest left the result up in the air for nearly a week.

I am honored to have been selected to serve as the next Governor of Arizona, Hobbs said in a statement Monday night. I want to thank the voters for entrusting me with this immense responsibility. It is truly an honor of a lifetime, and I will do everything in my power to make you proud.

Kari Lake supporters reenacted the biblical Battle of Jericho outside an election centre in Phoenix over the weekend as part of a protest in favour of far-right candidate for Arizona governor.

The demonstrators gathered outside the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Centre on 12 November as Ms Lake continues to trail behind her Democratic rival Katie Hobbs.

Ms Hobbs is currently leading by roughly 26,000 votes with 93 per cent of votes reported.

As ballots continue to be counted several days on from Election Day, Ms Lake has continued to amplify false claims about the electoral process and baselessy cast doubt on its veracity.

We cant be the laughingstock of elections anymore here in Arizona. And, when Im governor, I will not allow it. I just wont, she told Fox News on Sunday.

If Warnock can pull off the runoff win in December, one of Sinema or Manchin can be safely ignored while getting the majority vote.

There's no filibuster in the house so it's a lot harder to stall things there especially with the Razor thin majority.

Also there's no guarantee Republicans will control the house yet.

If Democrats sweep California + win at least 3 competitive races they will actually keep the house.

Perez, who polled at 2%, defeated Kent in a major upset dramatically improving the odds of Democrats keeping the house although it's still not good odds.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) appeared on Monday to troll Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake after she was projected to lose in her race for governor.

In a tweet on Monday, Cheney quoted a tweet from Lake from late last month that included a letter that mockingly thanked the congresswomen for her anti-endorsement. Cheney had weighed in on the race by urging voters to cast a ballot against her fellow Republican.

Youre welcome, @KariLake, Cheney said in her tweet Monday.

In her letter to Cheney, Lake said donations to her campaign had skyrocketed and her website crashed. Lake also noted Cheneys loss in her own election.

Thank you again for the huge boost to our campaign! Enjoy your forced retirement from politics, Lake said in her letter. I know America will rest easier knowing that one more warmonger is out of office.

Cheney, a critic of Trump and one of two Republicans serving on the committee investigating Jan. 6, released an ad last month that targeted Lake and the GOP nominee for secretary of state, Mark Finchem, who have publicly touted Trumps continued false claims that the 2020 election was stolen.
