Too many games and not enough time, downside of growing up I guess

Yeah I often do now, at least for RPGs. I'll try normal mode for other things sometimes

i play on normal most games. highest difficulty if it's a stealth game

depends on whether increasing the difficulty creates a challenge or a chore

I too always play on easy/casual. I only up the difficulty if there is some reason to do so.

For shit where I just want the story, yup. That's rare tho I think nier automata was the last game I did that.

I play games on easy and I don't care what others think.

If there's 3 difficulty settings I play on the first. If there's 5 different settings I usually play on the second one.

Playing easy doesn'tet you play the game as intended. Whats the point of using abilities, upgrades and strategies if button mashing will do. Only game Ive ever played easy was original DMC.

I always pick hard, if I'm going to zombie through an easy game my time would be better spent watching Netflix

Me too. Games should be fun and enjoyable, not rage-inducing.

Depends on if the game gives the same rewards regardless of difficulty. Like if I need to play on hard to unlock certain items I'll play the higher difficulty. But if it doesn't matter, then I'll play higher difficulty on games I'm really good at, normal on games I'm okay at, and easy if I just want the story.

Normal is the way the games are intended to play. Hard and easy are just damage multipliers going off of the normal mode.

Hard modes are just there so people can flex.

No. Of course I was a kid back in the day where you had to play on normal or above to get a games real ending.

While I don't purposefully go for the hardest possible experience, I try to play on the hardest difficulty I find fun. For Hades, I beat the game on a normal run and then turned on the damage reduction option to grind out the other 9 main runs to get to the end of the story seeing as I doubt I would be able to keep interest in the game long enough to naturally get those wins.

I was more open to playing harder games as a kid because getting a new game didn't happen very often. I had no choice but to play the shit out of the games that I had. Having a backlog wasn't a thing back then.

But as an adult with money and a huge backlog, I don't have much patience for hard games when I have so many other unplayed games that I could be playing instead.

Now that I have a toddler and hardly any time to play, yes. Though I usually start with normal and switch halfway.

If I can't enjoy and beat a game on normal/medium then it's probably a game I shouldn't be playing in the first place.

depends on the game and my mood. i will usually start with whatever normal is. i don't mind dropping down to easy as long it's not like broken*, especially if it's a genre i'm terrible at. i played God of War 1/2 on easy and it was still pretty frustrating lol

i usually play classic doom on ultra-violence (hard) but if i'm playing a wad for the first time i'll usually go for normal. doom has different enemy / item placements between skill levels so i see it as ng+ / replay value? especially if i enjoy it enough to start doing pistol starts too. for modern doom i play UV but i've dabbled in nightmare and i'd like to eventually do NM without using lives in Eternal. I don't see ever doing UNM tho, i don't think i could even get through permadeath on normal difficulty without going insane first

*examples of broken easy modes:

• RE3 gives you a bunch of extra guns and healing items at the beginning, extra inventory, unlimited saves, some game mechanics play themselves, etc
• serious sam easier modes have health regen and remove self damage from explosive weapons
• devil may cry idr the specifics but i think it had stuff like this in the first game and maybe others
• enemies dying from basically nothing so it's like :/. the converse of this where everything takes forever to kill is also pointless imo too (i think GoW18's highest difficulty was like this?)

if i really like a game and have played the shit out of it then maybe i will try for the harder modes. i don't really play games for accomplishment, i'm more of a sightseer i guess

I'll start on normal or sometimes hard mode, but I want my games to last so I'll usually make the climb to highest difficulty and then stay there.

I'd rather watch a game on Youtube than play a neutered difficulty where every enemy is built up only to be revealed as another pushover.

Depends on how interested in the game I am. If I know I really want to experience the story more than gameplay I might start on easy. I also have no shame in lowering the difficulty if I'm not having fun.

Usually start on hard, sometime normal depending on the game.
