My Grandfather WWII.
He neutralized unexploded ordnance in Alaska.
That as well as seeing hot fire...etc.

He swore after that no one with his last name shall ever do that again.
He was proud of his job.
But that was it. Neither my Father nor my Uncle served in Vietnam, and no one has served since.

I actually think that was a really admiral notion that he put in place.

Blood related that I had something to do with? My grandad. Vietnam vet with a bronze star among other medals.

My father was in desert storm. Have had two step dads serve too.

I'm the first male generation of my family to not serve as far back as we've been able to track. Hell my mom wanted to serve but my grandad pulled a gun on the recruiter that came to the house after she expressed interest. Said he knew how male GIs treated women and didn't want her going in based on that. He didn't want me going in cause he felt the war in terror was going to be a never ending war and he didn't want me knowing war.

No she's dates men that haven't served. Being from a military family though we tended to live near bases. The two step dads where out of the military when she met them. The last one only served 4 years. None where career military. Can't say she doesn't like a uniform though but she preferred to be wearing one herself. Wanted to be military or a cop. Settled for prison guard and federal government security contracts.

My grandmother you could say that about though. She knew there would be financial security as it can hard to get fired from the military.not a bad move on her part. She grew up in a time where women just where unlikely to be a bread winner but she knew how to manage money. She managed to live beyond her and her husband's means yet didn't struggle. She outlived her last husband by about 10 years yet my brother her two step sons and myself each got 10 thousand a piece in inheritance. She worked a minimum wage job.
