Here's Blue's final team in Red / Blue:

As you can see, there is A LOT of junk moves in there >_> Roar? Rage? Ember? Whirlwind? LOL. A lot of it was due to the fact that those moves were from level ups and overwrote previously good moves that were there (hence why Arcanine's and Rhydon's are so weird). It seems like only the starters got decent moves. I gave it 14 LOL's out of a possible 36 on the LOL meter.

Now let's look at Yellow's

It's not perfect as there is still a bunch of dumb moves, but it's WAY better than Red / Blue's team. I gave this 8 LOL's on the LOL meter compared to Red / Blue's 14 LOL's.

Stomp is definitely a lol on Exeggutor. Even Confusion would've been better.

But yeah Yellow made some fights actually respectable.

Loreli and Bruno for example(okay Bruno merely goes from Bad joke to just a joke but still)

Look at that Slowbro glowup. He goes from a Non Entity to a huge threat. Cloyster getting ice beam is huge and Bubblebeam is an okay upgrade for Dewgong.

Jynx is kinda trash both ways and Lapras is an absolute BEAST in both teams being one of the absolute toughest mons in the entire game.

For Bruno uhhh...still an utter joke but his Onix at least got way better moves and his Machamp can actually deal a bit if damage to stuff that resists poison and doesn't have two of its attack do literally nothing.

and iirc, in Gen 1 OHKO moves like Horn Drill will always miss if your opponent outspeeds you. So really, slow-ass Rhydon only has Fury Attack as his sole attacking move >_>

it's insulting easy in the Internet age where the game is 25 years old and everyone knows/can look up every single detail about every generation/move in Pokemon.

When you're a kid on a gameboy and this shit's new, half the challenge was finding out what's what because the game sure doesn't tell you.

Not that it was crazy hard mind you but it certainly wasn't "insulting easy"

I mean... in general the first gen didn't have high attack moves for any of the non starter types and psychic type. Out of the 15 types, only like 5 had high attack moves, and the rest like poison, bug, ghost, rock, flying and especially dragon either had literally no moves, or weak ones that didn't compare to flamethrower/ psychic / thunderbolt/ ice beam etc

But it's the final boss. Just give it fucking ice beam or blizzard >_> That's why I gave it a LOL. Aurora Beam has straight upgrades that they ignored on the last fight of the game

From what I hear about the new games these past few decades, even bug type has a 95 attack power move, and much respect to the introduction of the fairy type which helps balance out dark and dragon

When yellow game out everyone knew how OP Blizzard was and GameFreak thoughtfully designed the final boss' balance to not have it.

So it makes sense why every other Pokmon in the game regardless of trainer has garbage moves, though personally I always wished that trainers would evolve their Pokmon so they'd give out more exp when I defeat them

Priority moves can be useful. Granted most of the mons Blue has it on have higher Special.

I would give it a LOL, but Extremespeed wasnt a thing yet and you probably outspeed them anyway, so Quick Attack is kinda helpful for the opponent.

My LOL meter is subjective obviously >_> but there's no denying that Yellow overall was harder

Also man, Imagine how anticlimactic it would be if Blue sends our Charizard and he decides to use freaking Rage.

That Fucking thing in yellow wrecked my shit. My Zapdos thunder missed and it used Amnesia. After that it went to town and wrecked like half my team. My remaining team was easily crushed by lapras them. Or something like that I was like 5 so a lot of the exact details are fuzzy but I remember thunder being shaky and Slowbro tanking electric hits like a fucking champ.

Next time I had Pikachu paralyze it to put the RNG in my favor instead.

Tbh Loreli is the hardest E4 in Yellow. Two Super dangerous monsters, 2 bulky annoying mons and Jynx who kinda sucks but still can surprise wreck something with lovely kiss if it has godawful defense and isn't ice resistant.

Dewgong is actually tougher then he looks. Rest can waste your thunders/thunderbolts PP and you can get RNG screwed by Aurora beam/bubble beam attack drops if using a Physical Attacker. My Pikachu took while to chew through that rest spamming dick. Cloyster dies super easy to special attackers but Clamp can screw really slow mons hard, his defense is dummy high against phys attackers and Ice Beam hits hard. And unlike gen 2 beyond his special while not amazing isn't trash so special attackers won't OHKO without a crit, Thunder or a strong super effective STAB.

Also she was a nightmare for my team.

huh, I never realized that all the mons had Hyper Beam on his team.

And yeah, that Dragonite Barrier exploit was funny to watch during Twitch Plays Pokemon with the Venomoth >_> idk if anyone widely knew that was a thing until that happened

While I like Yellow's difficulty, I dont like the team composition for some of the Gym leaders It feels way less varied >_> Surge went from having Voltorb, Pikachu, and Raichu to just Raichu

Koga went from Muk, Wheezing, and Koffing to just Venonat, Venonat, Venonat, Venomoth >_>

Sabrina went from Kadabra, Mr. Mime, Alakazam, Venomoth to just the Abra line

Blaine and Giovanni did get more variety in their teams tho

Has he not traded the chance to do some damage for the opportunity to do very little damage and waste his turn as fast as possible?
It's pretty funny on the Jolteon too. It looks like it was trained wrong and then given Quick Attack as a consolation so it could feign having a good speed stat around all the other Jolteons.

On Jolteon it is. Dude is like #2 in speed. If you can't Zap em effectively you thunder wave/toxic to ruin them or use Double Kick/Pin Missle to at least tickle them. There really is jack shit else to Jolteon and that's okay because his high crit rate high special electric attacks and fast AF status made him damn good.

Ninetails has absolute fuck all in its movepool like most gen 1 fire types and is not nearly as fast so its fine there. Fire Blast, Confuse Ray, Fire Spin and then the last slot might as well not exist. If it's a resist to Fire Spin Spam with some luck is Ninetails only real hope.

The 4th slot is desperation shit. Basically only use as a Hyper Beam finisher after fire Spin spam or quick attack for a "Fuck you I did 5% of your HP before getting 1 shot"

I guess toxic but tbh throwing toxic as a bandage on all these pathetic learnsets would get old fast in game. Though as champion it would be appropriate.

I mean yeah it's a terrible move to have on Jolteon but as a whole, Quick Attack is a decent priority move.

All the eeveeultions have it in Yellow. It's weird on Jolteon but fine on the others

Blue has a great team in Pokmon Red. Its just the moves that suck. And in his defense, my first Pokmon game was Yellow and my Pikachus move set was Thundershock, Thunderbolt, Thunder and Swift. And my Charizard had Ember, Fire Spin, Earthquake and Fire Blast.

Yeah... my Charizard in Pokemon Red was Flamethrower, Fire Spin, Fire Blast, and Slash >_> It was also lvl 70 while everything else was lvl 30

RBY rival was still hard if your team sucked, were under leveled, or barely understood type advantages as a kid.

I look at those showdown matches now and I'm like what the fuck happened to pokmon. That's way too many variables to even get a hit in.

For Exeggutor it should have been LMAO on the empty slot

If you lose the 1st battle, it's Vaporeon
If you lose or skip the 2nd battle outside the Indigo Plateau, it's a Flareon
If you win both, it's a Jolteon

Silph rival battle is a nightmare if your Pika is facing Jolteon and the rest of your team sucks.
