Eh we'd still need to pay for at least the luxury items if basic necessities become free. Like I'm not gonna wanna give up playing video games just to have free food.

So we'd still need ways to make money. I'm cool with UBI to cover necessary expenses like housing and food but not strictly for luxury items. Admittedly I'd probably prove to be a hypocrit though if was offered free money to spend on unnecessary stuff I'd probably take it with out argument.

Does bring up a question though. If we did get just provided with everything who would actually be willing to do the essential jobs that simply can't be done by a robot?

If we actually approached a point where the vast majority of jobs had been replaced by robots, society would have to be re-thought from the ground up or capitalism would lead to the greatest genocide in the history of the world.

Someone has to build the robots. Unless they start building each other themselves. Then we are doomed regardless.

Or we could build robots to repair the broken ones, and back up robots for those. And those will all be built by automatons in a factory.

That's the thing. You'd think that if we have things automated, most people wouldn't have to work nearly as much. But instead, they'll have to toil or starve to death as they won't get paid.

Only under capitalism could reduced work loads be a bad thing for the average worker.
