What do you start with? How strong do you come on?

Usually i try to start a conversation using something from her profile. "I really like the view overlooking the city in your 3rd picture. Where was that?"

"You're a fan of Marvel too? What's been your favorite movie so far?"

Nothing crazy, but it usually gets them talking. This is all on relationship apps though, not hookup apps.

based on tinkering with messaging and statistical analysis while dating frequently years back, the optimal format is:

greeting + compliment about something nonphysical (particularly things written others might overlook but seem implicitly or explicitly important to someone) + optionally relate + question

i just tell them what i'm doing. that's the only relevant thing in my eyes. i'm eating chick fil a and watching chainsaw man.
