Kids bitching about the realistic mechanics and movements in MW2 (and its still not close tbh)

more people want things to be Arcady and sped up in video games

but I feel like older gamers welcome the realism, as it has always blown us away. Weve always strived for the most realistic looking game.

Bitching about gaming in general comes off entitled. We live in a era where there's someone out there plugging the holes of every demographic. Just stop bitching and find your type of people and games.

Realism IS boring tho.

Realism is getting sniped by a random insurgent after a six hour guard duty on day 257 of your deployment after having not seen action for sixty consecutive days.

Videogames are escapism. Give me a heavily stylized aesthetic, grandly exaggerated combat and movements, and ridiculous spectacle and grand environments over realism any day of the week.

Games these days dress up your character like they fell into a vat of every single national flag covered in glue and then sell you the "casual jeans and plain white T" costume for $25

Yeah, RDR2's approach didn't really bother me. It made it so actions felt more deliberate and calculated.

It's my favorite game of all time. So, I don't like you guys wanna take that away from me just so you can have every game fit your personal preference :(. Just play something else and let my people have games too.

I don't like that Yakuza went turn based. It's one my favorite series of all time. I couldn't get into the gameplay at all. But enough people enjoy it that I don't feel entitled for them to switch it back just for me. That would just be selfish.

If I wanted realism, I'd go outside.

Yeah the crazy thing about media criticism is that it's very subjective. But I think at least we might all be able to agree that having to individually pick up drops and sit through an animation while doing so doesn't make for very fun game design regardless of how more immersive that may be.

I'm not saying the game is so bad nobody should like it. Just saying that I didn't personally like it, at least not compared to RDR.

IMO RDR2 wasn't realistic enough, it's like they planned out all this survival style gameplay but then chickened out at the last minute because it would have made the game too niche

I feel that. Hence Yakuza being one my favorite series since PS3 and immediately going back and playing it on PS2 as well. But, we don't get to decide the direction the company takes and if they find a fanbase with change, who are we to take that away from them? We can always go back to our favorites.

You're comparing 2 completely different things though. Making the graphics as close to real life as possible is mind blowing. Making the gameplay as close to real life as possible is tedious.

MW2 isn't realistic enough. The shitty jumping around corners that's EVERYWHERE is garbage.

Plus sniper rifles.

Realism has always been a problem in gaming. 90s platformers could easily be ruined if a game wouldn't let you change a jump trajectory in midair or had you slowly drop down from a ledge instead of jumping down.

Frankly the fact that people complain about normal matchmaking is the crazy one to me. Realism isn't necessary in every game, but who exactly ever thought that matchmaking would be better if it didn't factor in the players before now?

People who have played games a long time.

Both player run servers and lobby systems (like CoD used to have!) were better than current skill-based matchmaking we have now.

Ive never wanted as much realism as possible. I play games to get away from the tedium of real life, not emulate it.

GTA V is a bigger hit and is way more realistic. So, what exactly is your argument?

Really depends on the context and game. I've been over "realism" for a long time now. My issue is games with hyper realism loose out in other areas like gameplay and content, I'd rather a game be fun to play over graphics tbh.

I don't think people are mad about realism in cod, they're more mad that they took out a bunch of less realistic tactics a lot of people used.

Cod multilplayer is about as realistic as a game of massive paintball game at its best.
