Any tips when I start?

Why did Sony not put the old games from these frsnchises on Steam? No original GoW trilogy, no original Uncharted trilogy.....

They expect pc gamers to just start on the 4th games

Sony is into censorship so the old games are basically dead to them because they have bare tits.

I played an hour so far. Decent challenge so far

I might try to get a ng+ run in before the new game releases.

I expect the combat will be relatively similar

I love the axe recall. Reminds me of Thor lol.

Dont be embarrased and put on the subtitles if you need so you dont miss a word. The story is really good. A lot of the background story is told by a character you'll meet along the way, and the way he tells you about the norse gods is great.

Yeah. Definitely recommend listening to the stories mentioned above.

I just fought some stranger dude and left our home. Dude was kinda strong but I won.

The stories in the boat are some of the beat parts in the game.

Nah bro just be a total boss and fight them as you gain access to them. Tbh the only ones I'd actually consider endgame content are the ones in Muspelheim and Niflheim and the Queen, just because you actually have to be endgame capable just to get to them. I also always make it a point to kill all of them before beating the game just because it's satisfying to roll up on the final boss with that badass armor.

But anyway, enough waffling about content TC is nowhere close to reaching, I actually have some decent early game tips to contribute for once. >_>

So light attacks can have their animations canceled with the shield and quicksteps, really satisfying once you get into that rhythm.

Don't bother trying to fully upgrade armor early on, it's a waste of resources. That being said, do upgrade pieces of armor exactly once if doing so will add an enchantment slot. It can actually mean the difference between tackling a specific early area at level 2 vs level 3.

Also as a seasoned Give me God of War player, I'd actually recommend turning aim assist on axe throws off. Feels like aim assist actively makes the gameplay experience worse, especially on GmGoW. Turning that shit off made that difficulty so much more manageable.

the combat sucks but the story is great

IIRC, I did mostly do this and found it reasonable. The only ones that were really tough are, as Kircheis said, ones that you only get to in the endgame anyway.

Played some more and found a revnant which was crazy. Didnt get too for and got skill unlocking.

Playing God of War on PC with an Xbox Controller. Feels unreal.

Hot tip for later, runic attacks are usually the most effective way to take them out, because fuck revenants in particular, they suck. Once Boi starts getting better at inflicting stun damage then Hel's Touch followed by unarmed attacks with arrow spam is another good way to deal with them. And once you unlock it, there's a spartan rage attack where Kratos just chucks a boulder at whatever's in front of him, that move is especially effective against revenants.

Forgot how much of a dick Kratos is to Atreus lol

That's spartan love for ya lol. Atreus is kind of a little shit sometimes tbf.

For me personally, I found the most effective strategy against revenants was to throw the axe away and just punch them. They seemed particularly vulnerable to stun damage and could be executed after that.

I think that's how stun damage works anyway, it's been years.

That's how it works for some enemies, but not all of them can be executed like that. Large hammer wielding draugr get tackled into other enemies, and can potentially be killed if you throw them off a cliff or etc., Revenants and Wulvers you beat them until you either kill them or they break free. Travelers also have stun executions, but due to playing on higher difficulties I have literally never been able to do these, lol. Yeeting boulders is still my favorite anti-revenant weapon because it usually oneshots or nearly oneshots them assuming you're not underleveled. Or if that's not an option, then Executioner's Cleave. Executioner's Cleave is such a good skill for when you need consequence free burst damage.

Maybe I misunderstand you, but both of these enemies have executions. I won't link them out of respect for spoilers, but they were quick to find on Youtube.

Yeah they have executions, but they're not instant executions. You pummel them with R1/R2 and they only get executed if you fully deplete their health, otherwise they'll break free. Kinda like when fighting Ancients.

At least you get a lot of checkpoints when you die lol

God damn. I forgot the difficulty increases on ng+.

im trying the second from hardest, give me a challenge or whatever.

simple cannon fodder will two shot you, even while wearing Valk armor with upgraded hp

maybe I should restart in to a normal new game, I dont know what half my skills do anymore

You only have to restart if you pick Give me God of War, otherwise the difficulty can be adjusted freely.

It can. But theres a HUGE difference between normal and give me a challenge, I think its bc ng+

Heh, yeah, it's pretty wack like that. Gmgow is especially poorly balanced because enemies can take long enough to kill as is, oh but wait you couldn't stop that enemy from leveling up midfight so now it takes even longer to kill and now you can't launch it! What's that, you like doing side quests? Well fuck you, now you're fighting enemies that are level 6 and kill you in one hit!

Played somemore and unlocked the merchant and upgraded my axe. Solved some puzzles and finally saw the mountain at least.

Have you seen any treasure chests with runes on them? Im assuming so, just making sure thats what you mean by puzzles

Yea so far I got 2 of 3 for health and 1 of 3 for rage.

Nice! Those are huge for survivability.

definitely try to get the parry timing down too
