I am all for this. Out of the three games, this is the most dated, and the biggest barrier of entry into this series. I personally love the game. The game mechanics are stiff and unintuitive, but I love the world and its characters. I can't wait to see how they improve the gameplay.

I'm hoping CDPR learned a very important lesson from Cyberpunk about generating hype. It's a very good game now, but it's not all it was supposed to be, and post-launch was a disaster.

Video game remakes are a crime against humanity.

i couldn't have said it better myself. it pains me when people who are interested in the Witcher games get told to jump straight to 2 or even 3 because the first one's gameplay is just too dated. when they do that, they definitely deprive themselves of some great character development and familiarity with characters and the setting that enhances the experience of the games that follow.

my only question is are they still gonna have the Geralt's bodycount lewd trading cards lol

I think that's why they say they'll take awhile and gave words of "We want to do this right" because I somewhat blame the business AND fans for the shitshow that was Cyberpunk.

Agreed. Yes, CDPR fucked up massively with Cyberpunk, but the response to that by the fan base and the general gaming population was beyond anything I've seen before. It's been trending this way for a while, and it's kind of scary.

heard the OG was outdated and clunky as hell.

When is a company deserving of forgiveness? When they've done all they can to make the game as well as they can be? Their only significant gaming misstep was Cyberpunk, and they've done everything that they can after launch to make up for that. Keep your expectations in check, and you won't be disappointed. I wasn't disappointed. I also wasn't hyped for the game at launch. That's probably why I wasn't as butthurt as other people were.

They said that about Cyberpunk too.

Makes sense, I'd wager the vast majority of "Witcher fans" have never touched the original or the 2nd game which will probably also get a remake

They haven't done a damn thing to make up for that. Some bug fixes and porting mods already created into low quality and low effort "free dlc" isn't everything.

I love the keep your expectations in check crowd conveniently forgetting CDPR crafted entire fake demos of "actual gameplay" to trick people into believing the game was far more than it turned out to be. Their deception was on another level and consistent up until launch.

The 'vertical slice' is a systemic issue in the video game industry, and not localised to one specific developer. I was hyped for Watch Dogs when it was first announced, but when I saw more update gameplay demos and information, my expectations significantly waned and I canceled my pre-order.

I'm sorry that Cyberpunk wasn't everything you wanted it to be. It's your prerogative to be mad about that. I don't care. I wasn't mad about it, because I had low expectations for the game as it was. I stayed out of the pre-launch hype, so I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. The story was good, I enjoyed the characters, and I experienced minimum bug issues with my PC copy. Improvements and stability patches are about all they can do, as the game will never be what they hyped it to be. That's their fault. I still don't care. Quit buying into pre-release hype trains.

I remember being interested in The Witcher series back in college. Tried playing 1 on my friend's computer, and was like wtf is this combat? And lost all interest. Probably only made it 10 minutes into the game. >_>

I loved 2 & 3 but didn't have a PC that could play 1 back in the day, so this sounds fucking great to me.

Cyberpunk was really more a victim of a combination of development hell and, more specifically, totally unrealistic expectations by management on having the game run on older consoles. They were trying to make a game with cutting edge visuals, raytracing, streaming assets, etc. Having to replicate some of that on older consoles held the entire game's development back.

Awesome, the first game has stopped me from getting into the series. I'd like to get into those games, but man I just couldn't stand playing the first one for that long. Not a fan of the combat.

The developers didn't release the game. The brass did. They only did it because people were bitching and complaining and they gave in to demand.

Playstation needs Witcher 1 and 2, but we'll see how it goes.

Meh the first game has pretty much the most boring plot, setting, and characters

I'm so glad I slacked off on playing this even though I wanted to try the later Witcher games but play them in order

Might give it a chance. Barely beat the tutorial of the original before I nope'd out of there.

There is absolutely no way they can release it as a remaster. Even with Witcher 3 assets.

I said as much to a coworker. If you can get past the dated, janky gameplay, you'll find an RPG that oozes atmosphere, with excellent characters and a somewhat disjointed narrative (on account of you coming in part way through the White Wolf's story).

i mean, it's the posterchild for Eurojank. the janky gameplay is a feature as far as i'm concerned, lol.

and i can excuse the disjointed narrative because, i mean, Geralt's got amnesia so, he's experiencing everything for basically the first time anyway just like we are.

NWN is probably one of my most played games ever and I definitely think it plays better than the first witcher. i know they are using the same engine but the brain surgery they did on it for that game made combat not great

i still really like the game though. This is a case where I am fine with them reworking how a game plays for a remake because even the studio themselves didn't seem super content with how it turned out. I just hope they keep the dreary atmosphere and the majority of the story

Jankiness aside, I've always considered Witcher 1 to have the best story in the trilogy. I don't know how I managed to marathon all 3 games in a row, but it made me appreciate the world more.

Witcher 1 does have a really fun story, but I'm wondering if they'll change it up for the remake. I've not played W3, but Triss in W1 acts absolutely nothing like Triss in W3; I've seen people say that she's more like Yennifer. And Alvin, who is a pretty central character, is essentially just Ciri.
