It is true that a game with great gameplay and bad story is better than a game with a great story but bad gameplay.

A good story really elevates a game tho.

Story can add to the immersive experience or even help create depth/feel to a character which would otherwise be nothing more than an empty vessel. But I can see how in some games it can be more of a burden as it deters your own unique user experience with the game by forcing you only to travse a linear path.
