What are you playing? What are you waiting to have released? What have you loved recently?

Currently, I'm playing through two games:

Cultic, a brand new shooter that takes heavy visual inspiration from Blood but has much different(and imo MUCH better) combat - so many exploding cultist heads to go around, and setting a group of cultists alight with a well thrown oil lantern is so far not getting old.

Prodeus, one that recently left Early Access and takes big design hints from Doom(you can draw direct parallels between many of the enemies), but has a visual style that is gorgeous and unique to it using pixellated 3D models, and some absolutely batshit insane gameplay with possibly more blood being spilled than I've ever seen in an FPS game period and some truly satisfying weapons.

Ive been playing through Ashes 2063 and Afterglow. A total doom conversion mod and it is just excellent. The people who made it really put a lot of soul and heart into it.

I was just gonna drop in and say Prodeus has been getting some groundswell.

I've heard such good things about Ashes, Haven't heard of Afterglow but Doom is just an excellent base for gaming in general

It gives me a minigun that I only stop firing when I'm out of ammo, or need to check and see if everything's dead. That's about all I could need lol

Absolutely indies! Dusk, Amid Evil, Cultic, Prodeus, and Ultrakill for sure. Also check out Doom Eternal if you haven't - it's a bit of a more stylized kind of combat, but once you get the hang of it the game is absolutely amazing.

I still remember a level of this that had a super long, windy corridor that, once you got to the end, started filling up with hundreds of the goddamn horse things. I quite literally didn't have enough ammo to kill all of them and had to cheat for more lol

Just gonna say again here how fucking AMAZING Cultic is. I'm probably finishing it this weekend, I've been trying to spread it out but it's so fucking amazing. The levels feed into each other perfectly, but they also have some AMAZING design and setpieces, lots of clever secrets, and a genuine flow to them that makes it hard to get lost despite how sprawling they often are.

Bendy and the Ink Machine was pretty cool, I can't wait for the sequel

Was that an FPS? I've seen merch all over and seen it talked about but never actually seen gameplay

Doom Eternal was amazing. It's just like, wow a fun game that embraces that it's a fun game and gives you all the things to make it more fun. I don't get that feeling too often anymore, it feels like games drip feed you progression. I did think the final boss was trash though and set difficulty to easy.

100%. It took old and modern conventions and melded them into something unique, smooth, and INCREDIBLY fun.

Doom Eternal was fantastic and I will forever be salty that casuals caused the 1st DLC to get nerfed, and probably the 2nd DLC too since we didn't get the Possessed Archvile like previously teased. I wanna play Ultrakill but I don't mess with Early Access titles too much so I'm still waiting on that. Speaking of Early Access I thought the demo for Turbo Overkill was fun but that's still a while away.

NGL I'm only interested in Prodeus because of the level editor. That Mario 64 level looked fun <_<

I actually haven't played the DLCs, but seeing that made me so sad. I knew a bunch of super hardcore Doom fans that were overjoyed how brutal it is - people seem to forget that boomer shooters outside Doom tended to be pretty cruel on higher difficulties - I'd argue Blood on the highest difficulty is even harder than Doom 2 Nightmare - and they were loving it. Seeing it nerfed broke their heart, it should've been at least made an option.

If you haven't seen it yet, there's a couple Doom map packs, The Golden Souls, that are designed to be like Mario games. And they fucking rock.

Doom 2 wad called The Rebirth

Any day now the Amid Evil and Ion Fury expansions will come out. Any day.

I did get Ultrakill recently though and will likely be playing that soon.

Finish3d Cultic and holy shit. I lost count of how many times I was in awe of a level as I went to what I thought was the exit only for it to unveil one more amazing setpiece

Need to go back and finish Dusk, I played episode 1 and it was amazing

Been eyeing Nightmare Reaper as well, the demo was really cool

Nightmare reaper is a blast

Bumping this for the Steam sale tomorrow, because I'm sure at least one of the shooters I haven't gotten around to buying will be on sale. Mostly interested in Dusk when it comes to already released games(assuming it goes on sale).

Might play through Doom 2016 or Eternal again soon, easily some of my favorite games of all time.

Finally got around to starting Prey this weekend (the newer one, although the old one is also cool). It's giving me heavy System Shock vibes

I also beat Doom Eternal recently and even though I liked it, whoever decided that Doom needed a ton of platforming in it can go right to hell

Been replaying Amid Evil. Still my favorite of the three progenitors of the boomer shooter renaissance. Close call between that and Dusk.

Do you ever play custom Doom stuff? Because if so, might I suggest nuts.wad if you want spam? >.>

I do a bit here and there, although I'm not well-versed in finding the custom .wads.

I actually just randomly started searching and found it's typically super easy, usually just doing searches on Doomworld.com.

That said, don't actually take my advice, nuts.wad is a notorious wad that is literally just a giant field packed to the brim with about 1000 enemies, all visible and facing away from spawn >.>

But I do heavily suggest Valiant, and really anything by Skillsaw

And I want that rumor of the non-english devs being handed a translation of what some of the curses in the game are saying in their native language and responding with "Oh crap we're awful people" to be true

Yeah I wasn't sure of the actual number but it's kinda crazy. Also a great way to make doom chug on some systems lol

I've been enjoying the enhanced Quake remaster. I miss this kind of stuff that just gets you in the zone. Modern Multiplayer BR games I fell like I notice every single second of agonizing running into the distance and looting. Why is that what everyone else wants to play?

Kids these days ain't cut out for ye olde deathmatching and/or CTF.

Bright Memory is pretty good. It's a similar format to Serious Sam where like you go somewhere then have to kill everything before you can proceed and it's got a bulletstorm kind of style system.

Criterion needs to convince their overlords to make a BLACK 2.

I'm playing call of Juarez gunslinger. Got it on sale for 2 bucks on switch. Never played it back in the day. There is some jank, but it's fun. I always enjoy a game with the unreliable narrator thing.

I hate that Fornite killed Unreal Tournament forever and now I can't played modern UE5 engine UT Instagib CTF.

I think Doom2016/Eternal and Bulletstorm are the only new single player ones I've played. Bulletstorm was really fun and had some great set pieces.

I played through F.E.A.R. for Halloween and had a great time. Those slow motion kills still hold up amazingly. I wish we had more shooter campaigns like this.

Kinda wanna go back through the Modern Warfare trilogy...

I never played 3. Thought 1 was absolute magic back in the day, and 2 was more hit and miss though some of the levels were just as good as MW1.

If you liked those there's a LOT I'd suggest for you tbqh
