This might sound weird, but I barely knew what it was. I knew the name, but had only a vague concept of what it was.

I keep seeing trending topics here at CE that revolved around Twitch, so I quickly googled it and apparently its where people stream themselves playing video games? And viewers tip them for that?

To each their own. but is that actually entertaining? I feel like that would be really fucking boring. I would rather play a game myself, read a book, do some meal prep, or whatever else.

I follow a few streamers pretty actively, with smaller viewer counts (like sub-20 most streams) and I enjoy chatting with them about the game, or playing with them sometimes too

I watch a bunch of streamers ya, but youtube streaming is taking up more and more of my time the last couple of years.

As for it being entertaining, generally people watch a streamer for one of two things, either they're really fucking good at the game and you're watching to see a first person perspetive and insight into what that's like, or they have a really entertaining/funny/charming personality, and you just enjoy watching them shoot the shit while interacting with chat, playing games (sometimes hilariously badly) or collabing with other streamers.

There's also irl streamers who travel the world, so that can be interesting, like a reality based version of the travel channe.

There's political debate streamers who can really get into the weeds of topics you don't really see on more mainstream news outlets

There are vtubers who roleplay characters and it's like watch irl anime charcaters play video games and interact with chat which is weird and kinda neat

I'll try to catch Vinny Vinesauce whenever he streams but for the most part I just watch his streams when they get uploaded to his YouTube channel

Yea all the time usually to check out if a game looks fun to play.

Quicker than going to YouTube and it's better for raw gameplay rather than watching edited ad filled vids on YouTube.

Within the realm of video games it's the lowest common denominator's HQ.

I dont know shit about twitch, streamers, or streaming. I did setup an account yesterday tho, cuz a bunch of people evidently want to watch me stream

The main thing that I like about entertainment nowadays is that, with the exception of live sports as I dont see the point in following a game that you know the result to or could fast forward through, everything is on demand and available to view whenever I want.

Following a streamer is the literal opposite of my entertainment preference.

I can count the number of times I've visited Twitch on half of one hand.

Mostly through VODs on Youtube. I do sub to a three streamers whose content I love, but Im very very rarely watching live.

I follow the Elite Dangerous channel & watch their streams bi-weekly to get some free skins, that's it.

Sometimes they have something interesting to share, but more often than not it's pretty boring and I close the stream after getting the free stuff.

Only to stream on occasion.

Yes, I also use Streamlabs a lot.

I signed up years ago in early PS4 days and posted some gameplay videos. Then my account was more or less idle until the pandemic.

Na. The only times I watch videos of other people playing games are for things like Cities Skylines, or football manager type games. And I watch those on YouTube.

I never understood the appeal of watching someone else play videogames. Can anyone explain it to me?

I use it during EVO, and a few other major fighting game tournaments. Thats about it, though.

I check out randomizer races occasionally

I have several channels followed, but I rarely watch live. I'll usually turn on the vods on youtube when they post them there. Having to tune in at whatever odd time they're going live is annoying and the twitch app is annoying too.

I tried it at some point a few years ago. Invested in a camera and everything. Got it set up and was excited to give it a shot. Because hey, if I can get paid to play videogames that'd be fantastic!

Then I got a viewer... and choked up. I was so panicked. I could only ever stream if I had someone else playing with me to distract me from the views. Plus, it's easier to actually talk if there's another person physically present. Anyway, I did have a link in my sig, and a couple of times people from here watched it commented and it was too much for me. I thought I could handle it, but I couldn't. lol

I have been watching Twitch regularly since 2011, and have been streaming since last year. I don't really get any viewers apart from some people in the communities I'm in, but I still enjoy it.

I think you'd do well. Especially if you're good in front of people. That's what killed it for me.

I'd like to try it again at some point, but my current internet isn't good enough for that and it's the best available. :/

Used to stream Dark Souls pvp vids, but that was ages ago. I haven't used it since.

Rarely. Mostly I just find the clips of it uploaded to YouTube later.

I've watched stuff on it since the Justin.tv days but it's always for a few minutes and then I will forget about the streamer in a month. The only thing I have consistently watched are the Bob Ross stream

I did link my psn to twitch at one point. I don't really use it. In theory, you could use it to chat with people as you game to be more social.

Not exactly twitch related, but since you asked I will give my personal opinion. I suck at fighting games but I do enjoy watching players pull sick combos, so I watch others who are miles better than me play and marvel at their skillz.
