From skimming the article, the concern was the battery. It has a small enough amount of lithium that it's clear to fly, though.

I assume since this is an apple product it costs a ridiculous amount to the point that purchasing offsets the issue entirely.

To be honest, the issue seems non-existent unless you are wealthy enough to, or you work a job that requires you to fly 20+ times a year.

also who tf is checking bags these days. I fit five days worth of shit in a carry-on and an extra spare in a backpack.

I heard it was because they couldn't pull the "we'll get back to you when we find it" and travelers would argue with staff showing them on their phone the location of luggage at the airport. The airlines didn't want to deal with that.
