Yeah, I never heard of this. That sucks for all those backers and is the reason I don't Kickstart games too often anymore.

It was a lot of big name jrpg devs. I'm surprised CE never heard of it. It was kind of a big deal in the jrpg community

Yes and no.

There were a lot of red flags with this KS, particularly with how they were very mysterious with the staff. I noticed they listed part of the talent for "MGSV" but didn't say who so I did a lot of digging and found out that it was Donna Burke.

Now this isn't a dig at Donna, I'm sure she's a wonderful person, but she didn't "make" MGSV in any capacity. This is like listing marketing employees as people who worked on MGSV for editing a trailer.

I concluded that the people running the project were being extremely dishonest with their staff and stayed the fuck away.

Nobuo is likely in a similar boat. Someone asked him if he'd compose music and he probably agreed but there was never a game at any point for him to compose music to.

If you notice, their developer is one of the people they didn't mention. This is all apocryphal at this point but the word is the developer didn't like how they were being paid and refused to do the project and they had literally nobody else and couldn't find a replacement so all the money was squandered after their literal only dev ducked out of the project before it even started.

It probably wasn't intended to go this way but Nobuo isn't responsible for this mess in the slightest regardless. He definitely didn't get a cent of the money.

Only game I ever backed was Bloodstained. Glad I did because it turned out amazing

Looks like Kira posted an update to this the other day on his secondary channel. Im guessing its more bad news for anybody who was hoping to either get a finished product or their money back, though since I havent watched it yet, your guess is as good as mine.

He's made a ton of videos following what a complete train wreck that game's been for a while now.

Yeah, this ones amazingly bad though, as the first minute or so I watched had the Caspian dude bragging about the class action lawsuit against his studio being dismissed by the courts as some huge win for backers when theyre the ones filing it to begin with.

There was going to be one, but it fell apart. Successfully crowdfunded 10 years ago, and officially canceled in 2021

Biggest kickstarter disappointment for me. Good thing I didn't back it.

It's painful how it all fell apart but what can you do.

I'm very judicious with my kickstarters. I've backed a number of projects, and they've all reached fruition in some form or another. The least successful one was Shenmue 3.

I don't really back video games anymore unless they're from a proven developer with a few exceptions. Sometimes I don't mind gambling $5 or $10 on a game that I'm expecting to fall but would be willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Most of the stuff I back on Kickstarter these days are board games.

For me its the System Shock Remake, as theyve still not released it in spite of seemingly getting back on track after they foolishly thought they had more than enough to do a complete reimagining as opposed to a one-for-one remake.

The funny thing is that you cant even tell its the same exact map layout for the Medical deck that they featured in the latest demo that was in the original System Shock from 1994 since theyve done such an excellent job filling each area with all sorts of details to make it feel lived in that only someone who played both games would notice.

My only gripe is that you actually have to climb inside the surgical beds to heal as opposed to clicking on them and getting healed since the novelty wears off rather quickly at the start of the game when you dont have that many other options for healing yourself.
