Or should I be blind? The only Souls games I've played was the OG Demons on PS3, and a little Nioh.

Both were years ago.

Any tips I should know or is it gonna spoil the fun? I play Kaizo Mario Romhacks so I am used to levels taking hours and dying a lot, but I'm not used to being penalized for it as these games can sometimes do.

The first enemy is a push over, if you can't beat him, git gud

The only penalty is that you drop your experience/currency. If you can get back to them, you'll get them back. If you die before then, they're gone for good.

After I finally learned to parry attacks, the game was a lot easier. Practice that.

Pick your build early and get the dlc.

Focus on a build, don't try to level up everything.

Sometimes it's extremely advantageous to trade hits in this one versus other souls games

If it's furry, hit it with fire
if it's slimy, hit it with bolt

serrated weapons deal bonus damage to bestial enemies, including bosses

Oh yeah, another thing you won't need to decide now, but relatively early is chalice dungeons and how you will or will not use them.

it's a little weird to get used to, especially if you're used to the Souls games, but it's rewarding, IMO, once it all clicks.

This will be the reason I like it probably.

My biggest problem with video games is going Leeroy Jenkins and being too agressive and not using enough defense.

Why do I need the DLC? I'm only trying this because I wanted to play Until Dawn and the cheapest way to do that was upgrading my PS Plus to the Extra Tier for the rest of the month.

I could never beat the ghost wolf thing or whatever it is in the cathedral place

Learn Parry mechanic

Be aggressive

the early sections are the hardest. After the third or so area the game difficulty flattens. (Although I dont think I ever played the DLC)
