It'd be a more grounded film taking place in New York City, and the climax would involve him rescuing his girlfriend Pauline from the title character off the top of an unfinished skyscraper. The after credits scene would be him (and Luigi, I presume) being transported to the Mushroom Kingdom setting up the rest of the series.

They wouldn't have their high-pitched Italian accents, but would somehow acquire them in the future.
Maybe as part of their new "Super Mario Bros." persona.

The movies would also need to explain why Peach/Daisy/Rosalina are the only other humans characters in the MK world (Pauline may get there at some point as well).

It could also end with the defeated Donkey Kong being relocated to a deserted isle (by the authorities, ater falling off the skyscraper), setting up the Donkey Kong Country movie series as part of the NCU

Between Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros., we have:

  • Donkey Kong Jr., where Mario become an abusive pet-owner to Donkey Kong and gets his teeth kicked in by DK Jr.
  • Wrecking Crew, where Mario and Luigi are working on a construction site and are at odds with their boss Foreman Spike.
  • Mario Bros., where Mario and Luigi are actually plumbing.
Where do all these fit in with the films?
