I actually didn't know this was coming. Her other lesser known series is being made into a show

https://youtu.be/8uwIto8dn4U

I think this series later had a crossover with the vampires. But I never read that far

The Mayfair witches become a pretty big feature of The Vampire Chronicles.

However, by all accounts the most recent TV series was awful.

a lot of the negative response is due to Louis being black in this version and/or gay.

there have been other changes, like making the timeline more recent, but that was most likely to better connect it to the Mayfair Witches series.

all of these changes, however, have been greenlit by Anne Rice and her son, iirc, while Anne Rice was still alive.

No they weren't. Anne and Christopher tried to shop the series (more true to the books) to Hulu. When Hulu passed, it was picked up by AMC, and the Rices' participation ended.

do you have a link to that, because Wiki is showing Anne & Christopher Rice as executive producers for the series, and nothing about their participation ending when the franchise was picked up by AMC.

I sincerely doubt any book fans were bothered by Louis being gay. Hes very gay in the books, both for Lestat and Armand. Basically all the vampires are at least a bit gay. Im not sure there are any homophobic fans of the books.

Making him black is an odd choice. Not the end of the world but maybe worse for this series than others, when the author is so focused on the aesthetic and describes the characters so often.

Changing the time setting is ludicrous.

there could be homophobic fans of the movie, though, as even though there was some homoeroticism, it's more direct in this version (Louis is even gay - closeted - before he's turned).

as for his race, no matter how well executed/justified it might be in his version, there are many out there who would knock the series just for that reason.

for the timeline thing, it hasn't negatively affected the story so far, but even if things hadn't changed in that capacity, Louis' could have been explained due to his being creole.

anyway, with IMDb, you don't even need to have watched any of the series to vote on it, so we don't know if book or movie fans are the ones doing it.

The timeline is so important to the characters though. Theyre products of when they were turned. It affects the way they dress (which is actually a big deal in the books because of the kind of creatures they are). Their attitudes and mannerisms are related to the time period they were subject to when they were alive, and how long theyve been undead.

I just cant see any justification for changing the time period.

the timeline in this is also important to the characters, and as some have theorized, it red pushed later to better align with Mayfair Witches, which is premiering in January.

edit: I've heard the justification that if she had written her stories with everything in mind (like, how the different properties connect), Anne Rice might have done something similar.

not necessarily that the timeline would match, but that some characters might live more concurrently.

The Mayfair Witches are already in The Vampire Chronicles in a fairly significant way.

Doesnt Louis own a plantation in revolutionary America?

I guess it doesn't matter if they're pushing the timeline forward.

But they shouldn't do that because the period sections were the best part of Interview.

yea, but instead of being a slave master, he runs a brothel in this version.

I think it would have been more interesting if he felt the same kinda guilt (there's a lot of forced labor - slavery - in sex work, even now), but it focuses on different issues, and there's a focus on Louis wanting to make his mark in society.

I don't disagree with that, but I'm just saying that for whatever reasons, they seem to want the current timelines of the stories to take place during modern times.

I mean, maybe its good in its own way. I cant say because I havent seen it. But I also dont want to see it because it sounds like a really bad adaptation of the source material and I had quite enough of that with Queen of the Damned.

to each their own.

I think if something is good in its own right, it's worth giving a shot, even if it might differ from its source material, but not everyone feels that way.

I think for me it depends on how much I like the source material and how good I think a straight adaptation could be.

I get that its different for everybody though.
