Edit: one of the dogs is ~10 years old and was brought home as a puppy. It appears the dad got these dogs from a BREEDER. Just saw a comment on the local news post on twitter from a guy who says he knows them. Take it with a grain of salt I guess, but he sounded legit from several comments I read from him defending the family. He said Mother is clinging for life, femoral artery badly damaged and facing possible amputation of dominant left arm. And before that he said: I know the family. These dogs were raised in a loving home as house pets. The dogs were their babies, their pride and joy, long before the children were born. The dogs snapped in a jealous rage over a ball. The genetics were triggered out of nowhere. 5 mo and 2 yr old gone. Edit: another update. Sheriffs said the dogs were euthanized this afternoon by Memphis animal services. And the mother is now in stable condition. 2nd edit: spoke more to the guy. His mother and sister practically raised the mother, who is lifelong friends with his niece. Definitely seems legit. I wonder how many innocent kids have to be killed before people understand that pitbulls are not and never have been family pets. I don't even hate pitbulls. If anything, I feel kinda' bad for them because it isn't their fault that they were bred to do what they do. But there's so much misinformation spread about their nature and how they're supposed to be handled, that despite how horrible it is, it's never shocking when I hear stories like this. So many people don't understand or care about what they're dealing with until' it's too late. And sometimes, even being the victim of an attack isn't enough to change their minds. Lots of pits go their whole lives without hurting anyone, and it's true that they're not the only breed capable of killing people, but it isn't worth the risk of owning one, because the chances are far likelier of getting mauled by a pit then, say, a German shepherd or rottweiler. All pits seem to be "sweet angels" until' suddenly they're not, and when they're not, you get situations like this. Sorry for the long post. I'm just so tired of people getting killed by these dogs, especially little ones.
