GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- A family in North Carolina is looking for answers after their loved one was fired from a job he's been doing for more than 20 years.
Dennis Peek has Down syndrome and was planning to retire soon from a Wendy's restaurant in Gaston County.
Peek's family is now advocating for him after they found out he was fired without receiving notice.
They said a store manager fired Peek because "he wasn't able to do his job like a normal person."
"I'm out here because I need to be his voice for the way he was treated," Cona Turner, Peek's sister said. "He don't understand and we can't tell him he was terminated. We have not told him and we won't tell him."
Turner said she did not know what to do and took her heartbreak and frustrations to Facebook to spread the word.
Thursday morning, Turner said she received a call from the Carolina restaurant group that owns and operates the Wendy's saying he could be reinstated next week.
Cona stated in an update on Facebook that Peek will not be returning to work at the restaurant and will be having the retirement party he had been wanting.

At least upper management stepped in to say he could be reinstated, but I guess if the plan was to retire soon anyways...

Too bad that manager won't be fired for not being able to have empathy and sympathy like a normal fucking human.

I read this story earlier from a different site with a lot more info. He was fired not because he wasnt normal, but because he couldnt complete the tasks needed for the job (Be it new tasks over the years, or changing procedures, isnt specified.)

Either way, corporate got involved quickly and had him reinstated to the schedule, and said they will retrain their teams for situations like that.

Retirement benefits? This ain't no government or white collar job here. I'd be surprised if they even got to keep an employee discount or something after 30 years of work.

What benefits...? It's Wendy's

I don't understand the point of this. They got fired for no reason, relative cries about on Facebook, they get reinstated after that, then the relative say "nah were just going to lie and have a retirement party instead"

What's the point of the crying then?

No guv... I'm not. I'm saying why complain online, and leave it at that. Folks are saying the manager is still there... demand their ass be fired

People pull this shit on special needs folks and bank on the fact that this is the reaction they will get... the family will spare them them from what they "don't understand" and just move on...
