I'm getting close to the end, but basically his friend (some White dude) hit him up after he finally got out of Russia and asked him if he wanted to come to Afghanistan and meet the Taliban. Since that guy kind of knew his way around and knew how to hire a guide to escort them, he said sure. It's still dangerous, of course, but the people and military seem to leave him alone since he had a guide with him the entire time. They got stopped at a Taliban checkpoint at one point, and the Taliban checked everything, including going through their laptops to see what was in them. They seemed pretty cool about it, but just very thorough. They then go up into the famous mountains of Afghanistan where there are Taliban cities. The Taliban basically controls the area, and there are armed Taliban soldiers patrolling with automatic weapons. But they seem more curious than hostile. They check him out, but they seem cool about it since he is with the guides. There are parts where he wasn't allowed to film. During one of those parts, he said he met with the "head of the Taliban." I'm guessing he means the head of the Taliban for that region. That guy gave him some kind of handwritten and stamped visa with his signature that basically confirms he is free to travel in the area. He also goes by the site of the giant ancient Buddha statues that the Taliban blew up long ago. That part was a trip. So far, so good. He obviously draws a lot of attention since he and his friend are the only White guys in the area. Everyone seems chill, but they have to leave if they draw too much attention and if big crowds start forming for their own safety. Even though the statues are no longer there, there are these stairwells carved into the rock that take you all the way to the top of where the heads of the statues would be. And there are these weird little Buddhist rooms carved into the rock with paintings and figures that have all been defaced. There was one room that was caged off with a flimsy padlock that you could easily bust open with a crowbar or something lol. Later on, they head to some famous Taliban market, which is like gun central. All those weapons Biden left behind? You can buy them in this market along with Russian weapons that have been left behind. There were even Turkish weapons. But then he finishes by saying he would never go back to Afghanistan lol. I would love to go if I felt reasonably safe, but mostly to see the mountains, the site of the Buddha statues, the lakes, etc. I know no place in the world is completely safe, but I don't want to go to a hotspot like Afghanistan where you have the west, Russians, the Taliban, etc. all fighting each other over the years. I don't want someone trying to make a name for himself by beheading or shooting me or anything. Other than that, if it was at least as safe as, say, Mexico, I would definitely go.
