Literally every card from Alpha/Beta are expensive, and the vast majority of Unlimited is as well. An Alpha Llanawar Elves, for instance, is $255 and a Beta one is $90. That isn't thousands of dollars, but for being a random common that you would have potentially quite a few copies of that is a lot of money. Similarly an Alpha Black Knight, being an uncommon, bumps the price up to $575 (with $150 for Beta). Mind you: Black Knight is utterly useless as a card nowadays so its price is quite literally only tied to being from an older set (you can buy a modern reprint for $.10 if you don't want to try and talk the owner of the store into just giving it to you). That said, 94-95 would imply that they were the Revised versions of the card (of which the easy way for you to tell would be to simplify it from them having a white border) and that basically nukes the value of anything that isn't actually playable. Elves is $.25, Black Knight is $.50, etc. At the same time It is quite possible that you got plenty of expensive nonsense all the while. Antiquities was a set that came out during that time period and it had multiples of very high profile lower-rarity cards. They cant reprint them due to a promise they made and lawsuits would not make it worthy. Its gambling cause to top it off theyll be inside boosters with a bunch of common cards. They are proxies, so you can use them wherever proxies are allowed. This basically just means kitchen table + some of the vintage tournaments. And this is just a scummy way to get investors more into MtG, not really for people to play with. Magic has been shown to be a very legitimate game so investors swarm to it like flies and buy up all of the collectable versions of cards to flip them later. This is aimed pretty hard at them as the cards are guaranteed to be extremely expensive later yet isn't something that most people will really care about.
