The sprites are the same, but the geometry, textures, lighting and other effects of the 3d engine are all vastly improves. Some of it looks like it could be original uncompressed assets that could have been taken from the original assets before mastering. But honestly, that's kind of unheard of for that time period, those were being deleted left and right to get slave back, back then, no one preserved anything, especially konami.
