I received a new PC earlier today.

Gaming PC (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, Windows 11 Pro N, AMD Ryzen 5 2600)

The thing is a beast, weighing in at 30.2 lbs.

Can I just plug this into any wall outlet or does it need something that requires greater power?

Should probably use a surge protector but otherwise you're good to go.

Okay.

Thank you.

On my old PC, I was trying to add a graphics card and someone in the forums said it needed 240 watts for that.

Left me a bit confused to it all.

Most household outlet circuits in the US are 120v with max amperage of 15A. Amps(current)*Volts(potential)= Watts(power)

You can look inside your breaker box to be sure. Sometimes household circuits are rated for 20A.

So typically you can run up to 1800 watts on a household circuit. Though this also includes lights and other appliances on the circuit so if you say, have a fridge upstairs, run a vacuum and run your PC on the same circuit, it could overload and trip the breaker, turning everything off.

Looks like your SSD is missing the data cable.

The SSD is the flat gray thing in the lower right of your picture that says Crucial. The black ribbon looking cable above/in front of it looks like the one that should be plugged into it. One end is connected to the motherboard and the other end goes on the small plug next to the bigger one on the SSD (the big plug is the power from your power supply to the drive)

Is that SSD not secured at all?

This is where a SATA cable needs to plugged:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/5/3/AACpnzAADsdp.jpg
The other end goes into the motherboard.

It looks like it might be the loose hanging cable straight in front of the drive, but I can't say for sure cause the connector isn't visible. It should have a thin L-shaped plug that fits on the drive, like this:

Where did you buy this? And why the hell is the ssd just hanging like that with no sata cable connected to the motherboard?

Edit: OK I took a look at the picture more closely. The sata cable is that flat black cable just over the drive in the picture.

I've never seen an ssd just zip tied like that but I suppose it's secure. Just plug that cable in and you should be good to go.

Yeah, why is that ssd ziptied? The case should come with spots with which to mount one.

I've never seen an SSD "mounted" like that, but I'm glad it works at least lol.

When they said it needed more watts, they were referring to the Power Supply Unit (PSU) inside of the PC. The PSU basically takes the current from the outlet and converts it into a voltage that your PC components can use.

It shouldn't be an issue for your current PC, but in the future if you want to upgrade parts, it's important to know how many Watts your current PSU is. More powerful GPU's need more Watts. Not enough and they won't turn on properly. You can partially see your PSU through those vents at the bottom of your case. They are usually just a giant block like this.

Looks like it might be a minimalist case that assumes you're using m.2 drives and doesn't have any slots for regular drives.

Could also be that the mounts are on the other side of the wall and the original owner either didn't realize that, or didn't care.
