I mean, it is true. They often dont make music like the hypothetical person means anymore. Music trends change, sounds evolve, even the equipment used in its production has changed. Of course there artists out there trying recapture a certain sound, but it doesnt quite hold up. None of this relates to quality only style.

Nah i read your post. I simply explaining there is some reality to it beyond assumptions.

I must be an outlier. Growing up i didn't pay much attention to music most of the time. Now I listen to

80s
90s
2000s and 10s and modern

I escaped the music trap that seems to keep most people stuck to their youth. I can listen to a new song from 2022 but I also like stuff that came out when I was a kid

I spend a portion of my typical day looking for new music from new musicians, so I don't think I fall into this way of thinking thankfully.

I'm still fairly out of touch with certain genres though.

That title sounds like the name of one of those compilation albums. "They don't make music like this anymore... VOLUME 6" and it's just random radio singles from the 90s

All music is an acquired taste meaning it's possible to force yourself to like a particular type of music you currently hate by listening to it constantly until you learn to appreciate it (but why would you ever willingly subject yourself to such torture?).

Nostalgia in this generation, just isn't what it used to be in my generation.

Back in the day we had REAL nostalgia.

Lots of good music nowadays, but lots of over reliance on sampling other better songs. If the most memorable part of your song is the bit you stole from another song, you wrote a shit song

He has a point when it comes to "sanctioned" popular music, sure. There's tons of eager new and innovative musicians looking to make a name for themselves who don't have the issues described in this video however. I guess it's just a matter of where to find them.

Same with food, though, the bacteria found in most food is exactly the same worldwide (from Paris to Tokyo, from Cape Town to Austin), when it should be vastly different (and this is probably the reason our gut microbiome is not very robust in modernity), and also why a meal in Japan, or America, or France is so similar these days (whereas in the past they would have tasted much more different due to the bacteria present) -- this is the danger of globalism, and interconnectedness, and capitalism.
