UPS says it delivered a "signature required" package to my apartment complex, but they didnt get it

I have no idea what to do and i feel stupid because this literally happened an hour ago.
Went into my apartment complex and told the front desk lady I was expecting an important package (phone) today and if she could keep it at the desk rather than put it in the back, she says sure.

About an hour or so later I check and UPS says my package has been delivered, so I do downstairs to get it and the front desk lady says she never got anything. The UPS tracking shows her name as the one who signed for it, but she accepts packages for the entire building, and (i assume) signs for all of them at the same time.

Now i dont know what to do or whos fault it is. Is it the apartment complexes? UPS's? Who should i start with?

It's possible that UPS didn't actually deliver it yet. They've done that to me where it will say "delivered" but the driver doesn't actually show up until hours later.

Do you have, like, a picture of the signature? UPS might be able to provide you with a copy of the form so you can take it back to her to confirm that she did in fact sign for it.

At the very least, you'll need that as evidence for a police report if it turns out she took it and is lying to you.

I found the UPS driver still on his route and asked him about it and he said to check around, but he dropped off everything he was supposed to. He has one more "large" package to drop back off at my apartment but he doesnt think that thats my phone.

I've never had more problems with packages than with signature packages. I literally waited one day listening for their knock after missing them and then got an email saying sorry they missed me they'll try again another day. These dumb assholes didn't even drive by

I'd be more inclined to say it's UPS after my experience with it

Does anyone know how signatures work? Like, does UPS scan your package, hand over the sign thing, then its signed, and then scan the next package, sign etc? They deliver a big tote of packages, so I assumed they sign once for everything in the tote, but that seems like it defeats the purpose

Im starting to think this is what happened because of the update that just happened.

I got all hyped reading all this stuff and finding the UPS driver on foot and everything and the only explanation was pretty much that the front desk lady had to of taken it. So i went down to ask her about it and to possibly ask to speak to management or something.

Front desk lady then tells me that she didnt sign for anything today. The UPS driver knows her name, so she said its possible he signed it for her...which sounds like it could be what happened. I opened a claim on UPS about it so hopefully ill be able to see the actual signature

They have a number of total packages that should be for an address. As they unload, they scan. When theyre done, they count. Then you sign. Whoever is signing should be told about the number being off if it is.

If theres a missing package, nothing can be done by the driver at that time.

If they scanned your package and your manager signed even though its not there, it will likely boil down to the seller on how youre handled. Once its signed for, their obligation is over. Usually.

Id give it a day or even two. It could be on another truck and itll show up tomorrow. Who knows.

This is ridiculous

So the UPS dude came back to drop off something else and i met with both the front desk person and him at the same time and I was like "my shits not there" and they looked around a bit and I was like "it says it was delivered to the front desk and signed by the front desk, but the front desk is saying that no one signed for it."

And then the UPS driver was like "yea we dont have anyone actually sign for stuff/"touch our boards" anymore we just write in the person who we gave it to"

so signature required means nothing?????

i worked for a mobile phone company for a few years and in my experience when its a delivery issue like this the first place you want to badger about it is ups. at least back when i was there there -was- a way to get through to them, its just a nightmare to get through their automated system. they should be able to view the signature put on the package and everything if there was one by anyone

You should also call the support for the place you ordered it from and ask them to file a claim or research the issue. This way they have a claim from both the sender and the recipient.

ye, smart, im going to contact them now.

I was just outside wandering around to all the different buildings around me asking if anyone had seen my package, and at least one of them said the UPS guy was already there asking about my package, so i dont think he did it if he was attempting to find it.

I deal in online retail, these carriers are insane. I've seen stuff marked as delivered and then 3 days later it shows up and the online tracking was changed to show the right information. It's possible it wasn't even on the truck at all.

My favorite of their shitty moves was when the Pandemic started they just decided to not activate tracking, just take the shit work through the delivery process and never update the online tracking until they delivered. Packages would show label created for days and then suddenly it's delivered. I really hate them all and wish my Aunt was still an executive with UPS because God damn I'd have an earful of shit to tell her how they're fucking up. FedEx and Purolator somehow manage to be even worse.

That's a bit far too wild of a theory, having someone steal from the delivery truck.

Check back again when a new front desk clerk arrives.

Might just be set aside somewhere.

Just check on things before you assblast the lady at the desk. We get packages in out office sometimes for a 350 unit apartment complex, and I have to deal with so many angry dinguses that want to get absolutely furious about a package not being at their apartment despite the carrier saying it was signed for in our office.

Carriers aren't bright.

Sounds about right. I really recommend checking in with the support team where you purchased, they'll have a protocol in place for lost packages. Can't say I know what it is because I don't work for T-mobile/Sprint but I'm sure they'll have a process.

Good to hear you got a quick and easy resolution. That's pretty similar to a story I heard from a streamer who ordered a steam deck. It was marked delivered and signed, they didn't get it and they called support who just set one for pickup at a carrier facility. It sucks to have to go pick it up, but all in all it's still far easier than some of the hoops I've seen people put through due to carrier shenanigans.

That's nice they were willing to immediately send out a new one to you.

I still say to keep an eye out for that "delivered" phone. I'm not joking when I say I've had UPS mark things as delivered several hours before the driver actually delivered it. That driver you spoke to is likely not the only one in the area. Carriers aren't as efficient with that stuff as they could be lol

To me, if multiple packages came in at once and the driver just signed the front desk ladies name, your phone may have went to someone else in the building. Thats the only logical explanation. And thats the problem with not having the interned recipient sign for his/her package. Someone in your apartment complex or building has your phone.

The UPS driver seems adamant that it was delivered, but the management and front desk worker said they reviewed the security cams and didnt see any phone sized boxes being delivered this morning so....
