The original campaign isn't in the game anymore and it has me doing these weird disjointed missions

Destiny 2 runs on this weird rotating vault system where old content gets locked away and periodically they rotate what's playable. I think their justification was that it was necessary to keep the game size down, but my guess is they're just trying to funnel their remaining players into a small enough area so everything is populated and has reasonable queue times.

It's not really great for new players, but the game is kind of on maintenance mode and mostly focused on the existing player base.

Lol wat? No, there are still a ton of players, especially since it's all cross platform iirc, and they have big expansions coming out for the next couple years. It was mostly for game size and poorly optimized underlying code.

That said, the vaulting system is awful and made me quit the game when Beyond Light came out.

It had me do like a 30 minute quest and the whole time I told my friend it's gonna advertise the dlc at the end. Sure enough it did.
