I haven't played this game since 2007... when I actually did a Gamefaqs review for it. I didn't re-read it cause I'm sure I'd feel embarrassed at my lack of ability to read or review anything.

Anyways, I gave it a 7. Wonder if it will hold up.

First (Well, in 15 years) impressions - Holy shit it's Will Friedle doing the voice-over for Jaster! Love his voice and his performances!

Are you playing the original or the PS4 port?

I got both Rogue Galaxy and Wild Arms 3 recently on PS4. I'm gonna play Wild Arms 3 first though.

Am I supposed to pronounce jakas as jackass or yakahz

There's a port of the first Wild Arms on PS4.

And you can get Wild Arms 1-2 and Suikoden 1-4 on PS3.

when you refer to yourself in the 3rd person are we supposed to pronounce it like jack ass?

OK game
It's biggest flaw is how generic its story is
Every single plot line in the game has been done before and done better
And all played straight without any twist or turn to make them interesting

Jackass 100%

Combat system is interesting. I forgot that it is real time battles, though similar I guess to something like a .HACK engine. I did remember the "Revelations Board", basically the License board from FF12. The other two main companions you get early, love their voice acting.

I think I remember from when I reviewed it way back when I felt it was a mishmash of many JRPG'S as you say. It was fun but nothing revolutionary.

I never liked that you have to run your stamina bar out before it can refill. Which means you kill one monster, get one hit in on the next, then either block or sit and wait. Any successful block should fill your stamina back up.

It is definitely an odd mechanic. In that situation I guess I would just shoot my gun until I was forced to block?

I've got the first two

I missed out on nearly all of the ps2 and early ps3 stuff though. And going back trying to play it is a pain and expensive

There are other ways when companies make it really hard to play these games in a convenient way.

That being said Konami did just re-up their trademark on Suikoden so maybe a collection coming? Cowabunga collection for TMNT seemed to do well for them

Mysterious Hooded dude gave me his cool looking red sword (SEVEN-STAR SWORD DESERT SEEKER) the second that the robot and the Australian dude came within eyeshot. Yeah.... not weird at all there dude.

Oh, and I am playing the PS4 port.

Hehehe, Steve and Simon think I'm the Hooded Dude. They seem like dullards and I immediately love them.

First boss down. I was grinding a bit cause I think I remember leveling up weapons and stuff is important?

Raul trying to make me feel guilty about going to space. I mean not really, just wanted to let Jaster know how much he cares about him, but still! LOL

I like the fact that Jaster is not an idiot. He immediately realized that the guy helping him was Desert Claw and didn't question anything. He also leveraged it to get to space and whatnot.

Rogue Galaxy is one of those games that seems like it should be better than it is. It's still good, thanks to Level 5 being an incredible developer, but still.

I've long suspected that developing Dragon Quest VIII kept Rogue Galaxy from achieving its potential.

Steven Blum, you sound the same every time you have a role... and I kinda love it. XD

Omg I didn't even think about it but you're right I 100% can hear it now that I think about it.

It's not a bad game but the slow exploration sucks. Also the fact that it isn't how people play, but it was assumed that you'd run from like half the random encounters? Oof.

thats not really his fault
they have directors who tell them how they should voice a character
and when you get a popular role they basically just want you to repeat the performance. so steve blum is always told to do his spike voice
just like johnny yong bosch is told to do his vash voice

both men are capable of way more range.

for example guilmon from digimon season 3 was also voiced by steve blum

he really is not comfortable being in the limelight

He has a podcast he is doing with someone else now to talk about voice acting. It's cool.

Why would you run when you also are a hunter of monsters? Like your ranking goes up if you kill ___ number of monsters. O_o

The encounter rate is like in old school jrpgs from the 80s NES era. It's supposed to be so high that you run to conserve resources and not spend a million years between save points (or clearing dungeons since you couldn't save in like 99%% of NES games outside of the world map or an inn).

Gotta love the cliche "let's sacrifice a maiden to save the village" storyline.

I didn't like the fact they showed Zegram talking with someone else and showing his "duplicitous" side. Could have done it better to make it more surprising that Zegram has split alliances.

Insectron or whatever, is that important? Lol

Yeah I always thought it was annoying that to intermingle half the character's arcs, they randomly throw in some effing scene out of the blue to give the exposition needed for the resolutions in the penultimate area. :l

"Oh you touched this save point? Time for a robot scene. Oh you got to this area? Lady and her kid looking for her husband. Oh you finished this stretch of an area? Random Zegram moment."

The valley girl who got me thrown in jail and then was a complete airhead just kinda makes me wanna die inside. XD

I love how the game, when you save and come back to it, gives you a little story of exactly what you were doing.

Why don't ALL RPG's do this?

Jupis found the secrets of space-time and Daytron just stole it from him and destroyed it all?
