Juri is the only one I'm aware of that has any kind of TKD influence. Which is actually kind of weird, because King of Fighters has a lot.

Granted, TKD isn't really designed for actual fighting, but you think in a fighting game you'd have at least some representation.

Called me old-fashioned, but my favorite fighting game is still Super Street Fighter II. I don't care what anyone says, it still holds up today.

Any point based martial art (tkd, karate) isnt super ideal for self defense because in a real fight the fight doesnt stop wjen you score a point. However its not totally useless because some tkd kicks are effective.

I'm completely clueless about martial arts - what do you mean by "point based"? What are some that aren't?

It's a game where small girls like Sakura and Menat can potentially stomp in the faces of huge guys like Sagat and M.Bison. I doubt the series would be that bent out of shape over realistic applications of martial art styles.

Quick question, have you ever watched Karate Kid or Cobrai Kai? If so, the karate tournament is an example of fights being point based. You basically get points for hitting certain parts of the body like the head and chest with your punches or kicks. You also get points if you do a takedown and strike them at the chest. You get punishments for illegal moves like elbowing or kicking someone in the groin.

Any style, properly applied, is effective. Muy Thai and TKD are point based, for example, but if those bros catch you in an alley somewhere and *dont* hold back you have a huge problem to deal with.

Ahh thanks - is karate in general based on "points"? Like are you taught to value specific moves over others and place an emphasis on form?

Just Juri. KoF has a lot of TKD because they needed distinction to get out from Street Fighter's shadow.
