I saw a tweet thread on Google's history and totally forgot there was a time Chrome was the third or fourth ranked browser. Now it is #1.

Speed

It was originally a lot faster than competing browsers and had a nice UI.

The wild hate for microsoft is probably what works against IE/Edge the most. Also, the notion that "stock" windows software is inferior to something you download on the internet.

FF had really poor performance on older computers and slower connections, which also coincided with the rise of chrome. From what I have heard, FF did better recently, but it's too little too late from their peak in the 00's and early 2010s.

I always assumed it was due to its interoperability with Google products in general

Speed and fire Fox uses too much memory.

Android phones come with it by default.

The logo looks prettier

Smart phones. Most people don't bother changing their browser on their phones.

people are saying speed or whatever but the real reason was that because when you went to google it told you to download their browser

i tried chrome, i tried edge, i tried vivaldi, i tried opera

and i just keep coming back to firefox

more people are going to switch to ff when their adblockers stop working right for stuff on Chrome-based browsers. i had a news post related to this but i lost it.

Chrome on iOS is safari just with a google skin on top and all the google spyware tacked on

I use Brave now.

I dont know why people use Chrome. Youre literally selling your personal information to google.
Meanwhile Firefox has no script and is extremely ad blocker friendly.

I've used Firefox for decades at this point. I use Brave Browser on mobile.

Chrome had:

- Speed. It moved as quick as a modern day smartphone app. Less memory leaks than Firefox and less crashes than IE.

- Extensions like Firefox. They couldn't do as much, but they had basic functionality.

- Marketing like IE. Plastered all over Google.

Basically it brought a big upside to the table while not losing the main selling points of its competitors.

There's just not much point in bothering with modern FF. It dumped its old add-on framework and customizability in an effort to become an inferior Chrome.

Firefox fucked up while Chrome pushed integration via gmail becoming an account for most things.

Duck duck go.
They even offer E-mail tracker protection with their .duck addresses. It forwards the email to you without the trackers. I have one and you would be surprised how many emails have tracking capability.

Like, have you ever opened an email on your phone? If yes, the sender has access to all the emails you have ever sent, and can read your new incoming emails too.

I'm different though. I use the default Samsung Browser on my smartphone. It's simple to use.

On PC I actually prefer Edge. The main reason for it is that I avoid relying too heavily on Google products. Yeah, I know, Microsoft isn't much better ^^ But lately I tend to like the Microsoft eco-system a lot (OneDrive, OneNote...). So I thought, why not try out Edge as well. I did and it clicked.

I don't need the same bookmarks on the phone as on PC. Why? What I consume and the way I consume it is different, depending on the device I use. That's why I use two seperate browsers with different bookmarks. Works for me.
